CSS - Where to start off..?

magneto_ms
Hi,

I am planning to learn CSS only web design. Currently I am familiar with standard html design and then attaching a CSS style sheet. The design is done using tables only.

So what would be a good resourse to start off. Is there any complete webpage builiding with CSS tutorial..?

I know that http://css.maxdesign.com.au/ and http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp are both very good tutorials.

You should also read the official spec, and have a look to the CSS homepage.

http://www.html.net/tutorials/css/ is another good tutorial that I used to quickly brush up on my CSS.

This site runs through CSS really quickly, it's a bit rushed, but it does make a good starting point to find out exactly what you want to know.

I personaly always buy a book for me to read... its what I personaly do and have learned everything from them... so if you have a fue extra bucks you might wanna go down to you local book store and find one you really like... cuz the nice thing about them is that you dont need to be next to a PC to read up about it.

If you want to design a nice-looking site without graphics using CSS only (not sure if that's what you meant) I recently stumbled upon this site and found it very useful:

Another great site regarding CSS is http://csszengarden.com/

It is somewhat of a competition to see who can come up with great looking designs using strictly CSS. You are only allowed to use a single HTML template that is not editable, and the rest must be done using CSS. It will allow you to view the CSS of people that have entered, so you can get an idea of what does what. This may be a little more advanced, after you learn the basics, but nonetheless a great resource. Wonderful design tips too Smile

On a side note, that site is crazy. Some of the ones in the clever section are awesome. Like the way they use css in http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=http://www.css-praxis.de/cssocean/zenocean.css for the diver and in http://csszengarden.com/?cssfile=http://www.timpelen.com/extra/zen/zengarden.css for the images that are "revealed." Some interesting stuff I think.

If you read these pages, you should not use browsers like IE 6.0 but your visitors will.
So. You would like to consult these differences with page like
www.quirksmode.org
or
www.wellstyled.com

some stuff is also here
