What, in your opinion, is the best software for defragmentation? There are several programs with a loud reputation. Still they are different in speed and options. Which would you choose and why?
For Defragmentation
It all depends on what you want to achieve when you defragment your drive.
Some programs would just move your frequently used files to the front of the drive, some would prelink them to your prefetch in a linux-esque kind of way. Others will give you an over all combination of those.
Anything particular you are trying to accomplish?

Well the "frequently used files in front" type is not for me. Files on my main drives change even more frequently
Could you tell me about that "linux-esque" maner of defragmentation more?
system mekanic 7 or 6, or windows def..
windows defragment utility does a good work
Try Dizktrix Ultimate, it has all sorts of options for how you may want to organise your programmes defragmenting.
Contig from Microsoft is good. You can use the Power Defragmenter GUI from Excessive Software to use it.
for defraging i use the default Windows tool
it works good for me...
and as I am on NTFS therefore it works very fast too

I suggest using PerfectDisk. It works great for me, and is able to defrag locked files like paging, system files or MFT.
Diskeeper is the best as far as i have used .
Because it uses a better algorithm , to sort and along with this , it exists as a service .
This makes it better . Also , the algorithm is way too faster .
Hence , give it a try .
U may like diskeeper .
But this aint free .

I also use Diskeeper. I have also tired PerfectDisk but I prefered Diskeeper over it. Both work pretty well, but I liked Diskeeper more for some reason.
i think they all work the same so might as well use the windows one
There are three well-known programs for defrag: Diskeeper, Perfectdisk and O&O defrag. Most people use Diskeeper or O&O defrag. I recommend you to try both and decide yourself which fits better to you. They are pretty equal but I chose O&O defrag because it has some advance features which I miss in Diskeeper.
However, don't use defrag in Windows because it nearly isn't as good as good Defrag programs.

I personally recommend O & O defragmenter which is very fast in defragmenting..
