Bandwidth limitation issue

Mosquito.Tyler
When I am in Direct admin, on the right side of my screen, there are two meters, one for Disk usage, and one for Bandwidth usage. The Frihost website advertises 10GB bandwidth, yet on this meter it says the limit is 9.7656.

I'm fairly sure I wont need that much bandwidth anytime soon, but, I'm curious why this number is not 10.0?

10Gb in "real terms" is 10*1024Mb. In hard disk space, 1Gb is usually represented by 1000Mb, so there is a small discrepancy. It's nothing to worry about - you've still got 10Gb essentially.

I don't see how Gigabits are relevant here.

Bits (and gigabits) are normally used to measure the rate of data transfer.

The term "bandwidth", in the context of web hosting, means the amount of data transferred, and not the rate of data transfer.

As such, "bandwidth" in web hosting is measured in Gigabytes and not Gigabits.
