at least based on the topic is nothing illegal. Gaming console modchips are NOT illegal in the US or Canada. None of these are illegal

- owning a modchip
- buying a modchip
- selling a modchip
- installing a modchip
- archiving games on a modified console's harddrive

what is illegal:

- selling modchips preloaded with BIOSes that circumvent authenticity checks
- pirating games

What has prompted the recent locking fiesta?

From the other posts it sounds like a link was posted ( although i dont know as I havent read the thread). The link possibly contained information of some sort that was illegal.

Whether leagl or not though Frihost has to be careful with anything that could be percieved as illegal as that endangers frihost and all its hostees.
