I use netvibes.com into which I have all my regularly visited websites fed via RSS. I've also used Yahoo, Pageflakes and a few others but like Netvibes the best. On a slower computer I have access to now and again, I'll just use a blank start page.
What do you use?
I either have the about:blank page, or a page which I think is too important for the time being to get lost in favourite menu & I should check it regularly.
My homepage is Eircom. It's an irish phone service thing.
Google.com, with my gmail on my custom homepage ^_^ gota love google...
Varies. It is either a local HTML page where I pull together notes and websites or my Google personal page.
I use google or yahoo and thats about it. But google most of the time.
I usually just have Opera restore my session, so I rarely use my actual start page. Although when it doesn't restore my session, it just goes to about:blank.
I can't say why, but I've had Google as my home page for years now. I guess I like the plain white google page on loading. It's less of an assault on my senses when starting the browser up in the morning!
yeah mines google. nothing beats good old google
GOOGLE!
MSN...just for ease of checking an email account i have had there for years.
I use Firefox and my start page is http://www.frihost.com/forums
I'm hooked....what can I say?
Pryme8 wrote:

I also you google.......google rocks!
On Firefox, I have Myspace. On SBC Global's, I have Yahoo!. On Internet Explorer, I have Frihost. I use Firefox the most though.
On Firefox mine is Google and IE7 mine is Yahoo.
I use a blank page - throwback of the days when I had dialup and didn't want to wait for a start page to load that I didn't need. In days gone by I use to use a local page with portals but these days I prefer to manage these via favourites or custom buttons on the top of the browser.
Chrisjs wrote:

Yeah, Opera! Then I'll always have severals start pages. They're basiclly my weblog, my orkut home, Memoriale Forum, google and wikipedia.
my homepage is gamefaqs.. http://www.gamefaqs.com/ i just go there all the time for games and stuff.... yeah..
My homepage is the Mozilla Firefox Startpage. Eh, I haven't bother to change it. I keep forgetting to, lol.
I use "about:blank" page for my start page in explorer. Whenever I use internet, I go to different site everyday. So I don't want to spend time to load useless page on my explorer. Instead of using start page I use quick connect buttons under address window to put the sites I usually go. This is more helpful for me to quick connect to the sites. I am kind of a person who likes to do things quickly~
My start page is just Google. There are other sites I check or visit almost every time I go online, but there are too many to chose from. About:blank is boring, and Google is almost as generic a starting page, with the added bonus of actually using it for research or searching at times.
Usually just Google.com, but sometimes I have to go visit my sites so I put them in the startpage as well:
http://darling.iceglow.com/
http://amaranthine.net.tc/
http://silverwings.tk/
(heheh sorry for the pluggage XD)
yahoo mail to first check my mails and then check the news under yahoo news

Yeah, me too
. The ability to restore the previous session is very useful for me
my start page is roseonlinegame.com... although I need to change that one of these days because I no longer play that game anymore...
Mine is Google. I don't know why it still is considering all my browsers have search boxes for Google in the corner. It loads quickly I guess!
Mine is always Google.com
and hey this www.netvibes.com is really cool!

Mine is the Mozilla Firefox start page. Quite useful, almost as much as Google, as it has go a Google search bar too. I couldn't bother to change it.
My start page is blank.
Much better than setting it as anything else, so everything loads quicker!

Same here... but when i had explorer i had google as a star page. I like the fact that it's minimalistic and not in you face.
IE: about:blank
Avant (IE engine): about:blank
FF: about:blank (displays blank address bar)
Opera: opera:blank
I use about:blank believing it will load a little faster... even though I really think it doesn't make a difference.

Try "about:mozilla" in either netscape, mozilla and/or firefox....very cool
Well, like almost everybody here I'm using google. Mainly because of my GMail account, but I also like all the newsfeeds and stuff you can put on your personalized page.
Netvibes looks really cool though, I might try it and even change if that site suits me better.
On Firefox and IE7 mine is blanck page! eheheh
always my personal google of my firefox start page.
but in my Opera Tabs, I have
www.frihost.com/forums/
www.wlgo.com/bbs
www.hgpa.net
www.plusbb.com/
four forums I always in...
on Internet Explorer: www.yahoo.com
on Mozilla Firefox: www.google.com

Try "about:mozilla"
Generally I keep myspace on there. Otherwise it's probably some off-shoot website that will only be there for a week.
Google!
What do i need the net for? Information! (And a few other things.. But its not so important...)
What does google do?
Gives me information!
When i open my netbrowser, i can either click on the adress field, press g13-g18 ( I use a g15 keyboard) and all my favorite netsites are there. But i use google the most, so i use that!
I don't have a startup page. I think that Firefox starts faster when it's set to a blank slate.
mine is either yahoo or google..
Mine is my own website
I use Opera and my start page is http://www.google.com.tr.
I love Google
So many people have Google as their home page, that's interesting and a pretty good idea too.
I've personally set my homepage to RuneScape. Even though I hardly play anymore I like the whole look of the page and I like to keep up with the latest RuneScape news. I also check the highscores occasionally to see how people are doing.
Google! Surprise surprise
I have set my browser to about:blank.
I don't like to have any other webpage as it is a bit annoying (for me)!
I use www.google.com/ig which is the customized google page. on there I have
1)slashdot RSS
2)i-hacked.com RSS
3)reuters Technology RSS
4)digg.com RSS
5)gmail
6)reuters: oddly enough
7)digg.com RSS
8)dealspy.com RSS
9)Reuters: Science
10)local weather
11)retuers: Top News
But I rarely actually start with my homepage i only have it as my homepage so whenever i click links from it that dont open a new tab i can click on home and im back to good ol' RSS feeds galore.
I use firefox's tab restore feature to open up to 6-7 tabs on the rare times that i actually open my browser (its open all the time anyway)
Firefox start page on Firefox.
Blank on Internet Explorer.
Blank on Netscape Navigator.
Blank on Opera.
I like blank sites because they decrease my loading time, but I'm too lazy to change it on firefox.

I'm tellin' ya...try about:mozilla....it loads internally so it's just as fast as a blank page.
*Note*...this will not work in IE nor Opera....only gecko based browsers.
I've carried the tradition from my oldest computer and made my homepage blank. I think I used to have My Yahoo! as my main page (for ease of checking my email), but now I don't. I was never very patient when it came to waiting for my browser to load a page when it started up, so leaving it blank made the browser load faster (for me, at least). I've noticed that it doesn't always apply for other browsers on my computer, though. IE lags no matter what page I set it to, whereas all my other browsers don't do that.

I always used google, but this netvibes.com is really cool.
I am going to give it a try.
Thanks for sharing.
my browser home page was origionally the homepage of my university so I could easily log into my school e-mail. Now that I have graduated, my home page is now the ever popular www.google.ca
My startpage is www.google.com.
It's very fast and ready to search something.
Thanks.
Blank.
Best. Start. Page. Ever.
Nothing at all.
Yeah, my start page is blank too, because if you are on dial-up it is ridiculous having to answer the alert box that pops up and tells you that the page can't be found.
If I had broadband, I would set my home page to either Google or Netvibes.
I used a custom start page incorporating google wikipedia and ocau now i just use googles personalised start page
I like Google.nl
Im dutch
On IE, is a blank page
On firefox, its the default google homepage
I use opera browser which is a really nice browser, because it store my last session and i am not worried about accidental browser closing and unwanted power failure.
I like google very much, but opera has a built in google search so i have no need to open google home page.
I may have more that one favourite pages at start up because i do not cut the tap of webpage i like much.
Dr Irfan
I use the simple firefox start google page. Works fine for me and loads fast which is my main requirement.
When i occasionally load IE, it loads a blank page, again to speed up loading.
My homepage is set to Personalize Google Page (http://www.google.com/ig)
But since i use Opera, I generally go back to where I left, (previous session), but again most of the time it a blank page.
For me, it varies. In some cases, it's my ISP's homepage. Other times, it's just a blank page. In other cases, it's either Google and Yahoo. Also, in one other browser, my homepage is one of my websites. Though, the homepage doesn't really matter. Nowadays, I'm mainly using Firefox, and Gmail is the first page I open, even though it's not my start page.
I have multiple pages open when i start firefox, and they are mainly just news pages I read, and good old ebay.
my.yahoo.com works pretty well for me.

Wow, I must agree. Really a nice site.
I'm actually going to make that one of my start pages now....done.
my start page is one of the most often used pages in the world "blank page" since I really don't like wasting time to see a certain page load when ever I start my browser. I'd rather have a blank page and load a bookmark of my choosing
I used to have the current website I am working on as my homepage but after reading someone on here using Google's personalised homepage I tried it out and it is fantastic so I now use that.
It has some great features available and some cool bells and whistles to add if you so wish. The only problem is that now my home page takes up even more of my time before I start surfing.
I always want to find something or have a question answered...
so for me there is nothing better than ..........
google.tt
Mine is just my old americas army clan site, i guess i should change it seems i quit them, but ill get around to it later...plus i cant really think of any other ones to use.
I use blank page. Because I do not like to make any of the pages as my homepage.

Nice idea, it is now bookmarked in my Firefox
I just resume my previous session.
lots of google users here
i personally have both IE and firefox but i only use firefox
keeping the IE cause my windows updates don't work with firefox
isn't that nice of microsoft, forcing peeps to keep that just for that
think i have the blank page on IE but on firefox i use the site where i'm a member off, eventhough lately i rarely log in on it
but i always start opening some tabbed pages to check my mail and all so it doesn't really matters what it starts with
Heh, my homepage, which I'm sure a lot of Firefox users have, is good old http://www.google.ca/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official.
I never bothered to change it from the default, and I really have no reason to. As a matter of fact, I don't think I've ever used a custom homepage. I just don't see the point.
Google - Personalized Homepage
I have used it for years, and it hasn't changed one bit! I still have roughly the same gadgets:
Gmail
NASA Image of the Day
Mighty Optical Illusions
Gmail
Engadget
Albinoblacksheep
Famous Optical Illusions
"Eyes"
Gullible.info
Ambient Clock (Dunno why I have kept that all this time)
My browser's start page is quite simple, and I never use it, since i use Firefox's search bar in the top right corner.
http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
I just like to use it since its very quick to load and looks pretty cool... Any other site just takes too long and has too much info. I like something simple and nice, and that is what http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official this gives me.

Google for me, and because I got Internet Explorer 7.0, I have two homepages,
Google

about:blank ^^
simple, and fast ^^
It think it's a bot annoying if I put a site as my homepage ^^ I prefer put them in the bookmarks
www.em411.com: Nice electronic music community.
One of my browsers is set to Google as the home page the other is currently set to Yahoo because I like seeing the headlines sometimes. I also use MSN as a home page from time to time.
I use Google because it is the best place to start. Most of the time I need to find something on the web. Another start page I use is pogo.com because they have some fun games to kill time.
i havnt found a reason to change it from the default ff-google page

It's like a fully customisable home page. A bit like "My Yahoo!" (http://my.yahoo.com/), except a lot better. The page has a calendar, "To Do" list, current weather, web search, latest news headlines, RSS feeds (customisable), latest stories on Digg.com, and a lot more. I don't. I use IE only when I have to. Like when some sites are not Mozilla compatible and don't display correctly. And oh. When I need to test how webpages look like in different browsers too.
At first, it was the blank page, and now I just have my website so I can have a quick look each time to see if anything need to be done to it
And of course, check if it works correctly.
Well first of all I had my website, then after reading an earlier post I changed to Google personal page but now I have changed again to NetVibes thansk to one of the posts above.
Who says we web users are not a ficklt bunch?
Thanks for pointing it out, NetVibes is pretty cool!
It is www hao123 . com a guideline of website
Google for me. Sometimes I use the page i must not forget to visit so that whenever I open my browser, it's the first thing I see.
I'd have to day google.
But sadly, the huge amount of o's in google confuses my very fragile mind.
Well, not exactly, it's the g's!

Google, quick and easy. Google.
Google! google is the best. (i even have it on my sig)
Yeah, mine is Google... what can I say?
I use "about:blank"
I don't like to set the homepage.
Because there's not any website that I want to visit everytime I start to operate the browser.
Simple. The Firefox OSX startpage.
All my RSS feeds are in the toolbar up top, so no need for that in my homepage. I really don't even need the search function either, as firefox has that covered too.
I would have my Gmail account as my homepage, but I share my computer and privacy is an issue.
Frihost is my start page, or I'd never remember to post!
Google too. Personalised, it's a great portal.
Mine has always been www.yahoo.com
even the computers at school that I use I make the home page yahoo.
For once I used google.com as my homepage, as it is recognized as the top search engine. Not long after that, I decided to change to yahoo.com instead because I would like to know some bits of news and information of the happenings.
At my FireFox I have google.com start page. At IE I have ya.ru page. And on my PDA - 4pda info
Mine always has (and probably always will be) google. More specifically, the Mozilla Firefox Start Page which includes the google search engine.
I've used netvibes as my homepage for a long time. However I've told my browser to restore previous session
me 2....
before that it was goolge search !
Google is the quickest loading page that isn't blank so mine will always be that. I experimented with having forums I went to often as my homepage but I found I would never get anything done!
it's top secret. But i'll tell it for u..

Currently, my home page is DarkDemon.org. It used to be a google page, but it gets boring after a while...
DarkDemon.org is basically a flash/pivot animation/artwork site. It's what got me into animating.

My home page is is set to www.google.com... Is there anything else?
My browser starting page is : about:blank. Wonderful, isn't it ? No loading shit on starting a new tab or anything like that. I hate when that happened, so I decided to stay clear and fast.
Maybe one day I'll change.. maybe.
default firefox page, which happens to have google on there.
Hey I am new to this so want to say hey to everyone , I use Goggle.com for the homepage one it is the best and easiest way to search for things that you need to look up
*Sweets*
I have frihost.com in old laptop and www.saunalahti.fi (Finnish operator) newer one.
I'm using internet explorer 7 now.
My home page of the explorer is "http://www.naver.com"
It is a portal site in Korea. I'm from south korea. so I'd like it.
It's very similar to "http://www.yahoo.com". I think naver.com empasize news and knowldegd.
There is very significant serve at naver.com. it is "Knowledg IN".
There are several millions questions and answers...
it's very useful.. but it's so hard to believe 100 %
It depends on the computer - on the school lab computers, the homepage in IE is msn.com, in 'fox it's the "Firefox Start Page." On my computer at work it pops up our Bugzilla, my personal laptop is Google, and my desktop is fark.com.
For a while, I used Yahoo!'s home page, until Google offered custom ones. It's useful and easy to edit. It even offers little embedded games if I want them, to waste time when I'm bored on the laptop.
I use the Mozilla Start Page thing.
Like many others I use Google.
I love being able to feed RSS into it.
Right now I have GMail, Slashdot, Trillian Dev Blog (Woo, Astra.), Quotes of the Day and a site called I-Hacked.
It really does get rid of the minimalism of the original Google.
But I do find these things are a majority of my net presence.
Everything else I have on my bookmark toolbar.
PS: I use Fox and Opera, but most often Fox.
What can I say? It does everything I need it to.
I use google, and I been usig it for years. The first thing I do when I format my PC it to put it in my internet browser. So as you can see, I'm a big fan.
But...
A wile ago i heard that a withe page uses 74 watts for displaying (As the google page
), and a black one only uses 59w. So in this time of global warming, I think everyone should do what he cans to help. So I'm thinking to chaging it to a darker page.
I even chage the image of my signature to a darker one.

Maybe I will change it soon !!!
Skillzzz
For a while I had yahoo. Now I just have a blank page for my start. That is the quickest loading page ever.
My start page is www.google.be.
Before that, I used the default page : http://global.acer.com/ set up by the manufacturer of my laptop "Acer".
And yeah, Google is fast to load and remains one of the hottest search engines on the Internet; no wonder I use it for all my researches out there
Well before that, I liked setting up my homepage on previous websites I designed back in the years, especially on to the stats section (http://www.webstats4u.com/ rules if you're looking for a cool and 100% free stats tool!) to find out how many people visited my page the last hours
i use google.com on firefox
and i use "about:blank" on ie

Google! I am an avid googler. I wouldnt make it thorugh the day without that wonderful search engine
fastest browsing is with blank homepage
you can quickly type address
and google homepage is not helpful at all, because in opera you can search when you start typing g .. ... ... in an address bar
Mine has been Google since the first time I used that page, but it's not so necessary now since every browser has a google search built in it seems. It's actually Firefox's version of the google homepage at the moment.
about:blank=)
I have (still!>_<) the dial-up connection and that pages like Google or Yahoo! or... other are too heavy for it.
And I'm opening many pages in off-line mode, so about:blank is still the greatest desicion for me.
p.s. Do you know that if you'll enter in Internet Explorer in address box "about:something" that will be word "something" on a generated page?

I just tried that on Internet Explorer 7 and it just said "Navigation Cancelled".
I've tried to find more 'URLs' like "about:something" after finding out (from this thread I think) that if you type "about:Mozilla" in Firefox you get a really interesting page. Does anyone know anymore?
about:blank
Sticks from the old times when you just got modem. At that time, I didn't want the thing to dial-up before I had specified wich page I wanted to go to.
For those who has got Firefox, I am also kind of fan of about:mozilla and about:cache in some weird way
My IE7's homepage is weather.com..
I need to know the weather first thing in the morning.. It helps me plan what to wear and what to expect later in the day, as a commuter.
Google is my Opera browser's homepage, though.
I used to have a Google Custom Homepage or whatever with a bunch of RSS feeds, but now since I use Google Reader (Yep, Google fanboy here), I have a Google Homepage with a Gmail widget, a Google Reader widget, and a phases of the moon widget.
'Cause I like knowing the phase of the moon to the exact percentage without going outside with complicated equipment.
So yeah. My homepage is custom, chock-full of information, and neat and pretty. I do like it so...
sometimes google, sometimes hotmail, and for the last seven says frihost.
My homepage is Google...
I hate very big sites such as MSN, which needs much time to fully open even with an ADSL connection
Moreover, I always want to have a search engine ready to use...
http://www.aaotracker.com/usertracker.php
i used to have a local html page i made with my most frequently used sites but lost it in a format
My homepade is Yahoo! and I've been using it for years. Even though Yahoo! changed it's front page a bunch of times, I'm still familiar with it. You can also have your custom page with My Yahoo.
I have tried Google a lot and have a gmail account but I'm too familiar with Yahoo! I only use Google's search engine when I'm not satisfied with Yahoo!'s results.
Really strange, mine is http://www.google.nl/search?hl=nl&q=Flakky&btnG=Google+zoeken&meta= since I want to be updated which Flakkies post online on forums (I am not the only Flakky
)
Currently, only the first result and the last result (page 1) are not mine
For some time, I had http://216.32.85.170 in order to check how fast does Frihost server number 2 responds
But I have came back to http://www.google.com/ig
I always use Google.com or just blank page… It depends of the browser.
Code:
http://www.google.co.uk/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official,http://my.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?MyeBay
That is my homepage in Firefox (So it opens two tabs)
i use Google! that's convenient for me to check gmail!
I have now changed from netvibes... sort of. My start page (when I open the browser) is not about:blank... my home page (when I click the button) is netvibes.com
Sometimes a guy just wants to start up the browser without loading 140+ RSS feeds.

Evil
my start page is bloglines, my feed reader ;D
Mine is boring - Google.ie
There's no such thing as evil. Seriously.
As for two posts up, the Astronomy Picture of the Day is always a great site... start page or not.
I use Google because I mostly use the internet for research. Very efficient and flexible search engine in my opinion.
www.google.es, or even the Firefox start page (which cointains Google search)
I find it the best homepage because I'm always always using it...
My homepage is iGoogle... loaded with tons of gadgets...

I use Yahoo! as my start page in IE. I love Yahoo! 's search engine, and its mutifunction on its very first page. Compare to Google, Yahoo is muti- functioned while Google is much simplier. In Firefox, I use my own website as the start page, mainly because I use Firefox as an editor of my web.
Regards
My browser's start page has changed many times over the years. At the moment, it is my on-computer test server's main directory; however, I do not actually have much of a use for it unless I am testing something that HTML cannot support. My start page used to be Yahoo! back on my older computers; this was before I switched browsers and did not get paranoid from how trusty cookies can be.
My startpage is always runescape.com! If you haven't been there before, check it out.
My browser's start page has not changed since a long time now... Its the standard ever reliable About:blank..
I am not even remotely interested in having a website as a start page..
Google.com/ig
Because if I ever lose my favorites in a browser, it's there to help. <3
My start page is Backflip, I've had my bookmarks there since they started up in 2000. Backflip was one of the first "social bookmarking" services, even though that phrase wasn't in use at the time.
ebay.co.uk as I used to do a lot of buying/selling on there.
I'll be changing it, soon, though.
More later.
Firefox's start page, w/ Google engine
...though it's kinda pointless since Firefox has an embedded Google Search bar at the top-right corner...
When I was younger I used to be quite obsessive about neopets so I would have www.neopets.com as my homepage. It has been a while since I've last had that though.
Now days, the very first thing I do when I get on my PC is check my email. I am currently using Mozilla Firefox as my main browser and I have http://mail.yahoo.com as my homepage.
My webpage www.legendofares.com
You gotta play and love this game. Really fun.
http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
Google is the website that I use most, so I never bothered to change it on Firefox. When I used IE I'd have it be a game site, and on Netscape I'd use a news site.... I have several browsers so I usually open them up depending on what I need to do...
My start page is:
http://www.google.com/ig?hl=en
I think it`s the best start page ever if u got google account. You can add there almost everything. Torrent Search Engines, Weather, Google Maps, just create google account and check yourself, if you start using this page as you start page you will never stop
.
My home page is usually about:mozilla or my website.
wow, alot of people have a blank homepage. I've never even thought of having a blank home page.
My Tabs are.. iGoogle, Gmail, and Frihost.
heh.

^-- said its better than i could have, though my i-google has
1) gmail
2) weather
3) horoscopes
4)Text messaging
5)you tube search.
I also have http://www.homebetatrial.com/
....cant wait..
I use a personalised google site with weather, email and lots of other stuff that's really handy
Definitely Gmail. I almost always have it open in a tab, even when I'm not using it specifically.
dnt rem whther i have posted in this thread or not...
but i use blank page as my start up page

gotta love the G-Machine. It is built to load fast.
google..sir....it useful.....
My is google.com, very handy for quick search, doesn't have advertisent and loads fast almoust like blank. I have also google search ( ! no toolbar ) in upper right corner of my browser
mine used to be Google.tt
now it's WeTingOnline.net
Mine's iGoogle for IE, and Sanctuary.frih.net for Firefox
My start-page is www.startsiden.no
I love it, always something new to read about.
I use MSN as my homepage. I don't really use it because I like it, but since I have a hotmail account I figured I should just keep it as www.msn.com. Also, before browsing the web, I sometimes look to see whats happening in the world. Other than that, I don't really use my homepage that much...
I also use Google as my default homepage...I can't actually remember never having it be so. I agree with some of the previous posters about how it's just nice to have that white space rather than a gigantic deal of stuff to overload you with. But then again, I just open up seven or eight tabs I have on my Booksmark bar...buuuut, well, Google's just the easy way to go.
I did have my own custom start page saved on my PC, but I ditched it for Pageflakes (http://www.pageflakes.com). Very nice, very customisable...
Its my website www.buhaypinoy.net
So I can easily look at it everytime i browse the net
The Firefox-branded version of Google.
On the firefox is http://google.com and on the opera is http://gmail.com
Yeah, mine is my AOL mail, as being on a wireless connection i don't have to use the AOL software, consequently i cannot view my e-mails without using outlook (which i hate) or using the web based e-mail.
It's really good. Recommend it thoroughly to anyone in my position
For me, my firefox homepage is the default mozilla startpage, because i share my computer with my siblings, so can't really put my own favorite site for homepage. For my internet explorer, just the about:blank.
Just some "locked" tabs and a blank page, I use bookmarks you see so my pages are just a click away any how.
I've been through a couple homepages throughout the years. For a while I had about:blank. Google then came around and I was hooked. At the moment I'm using the iGoogle with the eyes in the middle of the page following the mouse it's funny lol. Some other's I've had are myspace (yes i went through that stage), yahoo (bleh), and others like that.
sOuP
about:blank ,
sometimes google.com
sometimes unexpected sites
Mine is my website, just because I like it so much.
http://www.filesave.info/ because I am working on it at the moment but i mostly have google at my startup page !
I made two firefox profiles: one for development, and the other for my usual browsing. For the first, I use the tabs that I need when developing, but the latter, I use iGoogle.
i have 2 startpages: one is the news, the other one is an accountpage on a website.
Hello all!
Me, it's http://www.fr.yahoo.com
French version of yahoo
Ive got this page since I'm using computer! (God knows how long it is hehehe
)
See you around peoples!
Alexander.
My Home Page is always set to http://www.google.com.au
Simply the most useful site out there.
Mine used to be DeviantART. Now it's another art website, but I'm not going to link it here because it's not an all-ages site.
My homepage is: http://www.wowhead.com/
Since I do a lot of gaming, and World of Warcraft is one of the MMORPG's I play, I tend to always want all the information needed right there. This way if I just click my home button, it takes me directly to my WoW database.
Haven't actually given much importance to this, as Google finds me the best stuff, but the Netvibes page, it's actually pretty spiffy =]
For now though, I'm using Google, but you have arisen my curiosity in exploring other possibilities as well XD
Google...
Mine has always been google.com. It loads so quickly and it just seems right.
I know know when I'll need it. I'm really lazy, this way if I have to look something up I can just open my browser and go. It sleek, clean, small and fast and doesn't make my browser full of clutter. I don't get and stupid pictures or annoying news that I don't care about.
Google.com
Nothing special. Just the Mozilla FireFox start page with the google search bar
iGoogle is quite nice, I would recommend trying it as homepage - it's the one I have, of course, since I say this. You just need a Google account and so you can customize it with lots of options.
right now i'm using this forum as my homepage
. it's great because i can just get to my direct admin from the old account actepted message, and i can make a couple post here so i don't lose my hosting, which is nice. before that, it was just the homepage of my isp.
does anybody else use thier old account actepted message to get to there directadmin?
google
My home page is just www.msn.com
It's just what I have always used for some reason, and just stuck with it. Never thought about changing it, though now that I have thought about it, I just might
On firefox I have the FireFox Start Page :: http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
On IE, my home page is http://www.varusonline.com .
Since I am an administrator for Varus Online, and it is a PHPBB forum, I don't want all the posts to be marked as read every time I load my web browser. It makes it a lot harder to find questions and such if I have to actually read the dates on the first few threads of every forum. But I only use IE if I already have Firefox open, so I really don't mind it defaulting there.
vonboy wrote:
does anybody else use thier old account actepted message to get to there directadmin?
Even more simply: you can just use the links after '-Control Panel' under 'Account details' on your account page. Personally, I have a link to my DirectAdmin in my favourites.
Mine is google.ca
I am soooo unoriginal. XD It's okay though, I tend to use google for every thing. Even when I need to go to a different website, I will type it in the google search instead and waste seconds of my life clicking on the link to the website. XP
I put www.google.com, cause I like to start with searching for something when the browser open up.
Yahoo.com in school and netvigator.com at home ( an internet service provider )
yahoo is quite okay for me, as i read news always.
vonboy wrote:

I have to say, that's not a bad idea either really... but for the moment I'm still with about:blank as my start page, and netvibes.com set as the home page (as in, when I hit the home button).
I use the default firefox homepage.
It's instinct already on the first site I type.
well mine is http://localhost with restoratio from previous session. i use firefox and currently trying to learn css so that help me avoid open 5 windows one by one.
Google, like most other people. It's my most used site for sure, so it's a logical place to start for me. I can't even remember what it was before that.
its either about:blank or a quick html page i have made that lists all my fav links...
I just have my email pop up as my home pages. Currently I'm going from yahoo mail to gmail because yahoo's spam filter is just not very good.
I have a aboutblank page. At times I change it to gmail.
Mine is igoogle. I love it. RSS feeds, weather, my gmail, all on one page. No ads. Yay google!
Google and reddit, though I sometimes expand that repertoire of sites when I'm interesting in something (ie theregister.co.uk or overclockers.com)
My homepage is iGoogle. I just love watching that foxie doing everyday things : )
Igoogle For my, my sh^ts custom!
I like to use a blank page - kind of like throwback of the days when I had dialup and didn't want to wait for a start page to load that I didn't need. In days gone by I use to use a local page with portals but these days I prefer to manage these via favorites or custom buttons on the top of the browser.
You know, give it my special touch! lol
try about:mozilla as your start page
trusty ol' google.com is mine!!! I wonder how many hits google gets per day...wow
I use Two browsers.
Opera for Browsing, and IE for Headache
The Homepage of IE is recently set to google.com
No homepage is set in opera.Just blank Transfers tab is open when i start using opera.
usually Localhost, but since i just reformatted, its firefox default
though im going to create a dedicated server and host localhost on there
Joe
my website
i install alexa toolbar and need to increase my alexa ranking
an ingenious question as all can answer who use that frihost ya..
i prefer http://en.wikipedia.org as it is big encyclopedia which can teach me the right english. some more has pictures!!
i prefer it but also cn use google at times as the page loads fast.
BLANK. Am I really the only one that doesn't have a home page? I like it when my browser opens, it doesn't automatically go anywhere, so I have the freedom to go wherever I need to go. Maybe it's just my phobia of automated things. I like having control. Does no one else use blank as their home page? It seems like everyone I talk to uses a home page.

Uhh... You obviously haven't looked very hard. I think, possibly second to Google, the most common homepage has been about:blank.
Usually I have either about:blank or a local HTML page. But this time it's garrysmod.org I play a lot of gmod
ha yea
netvibes is a good site
i just checked it out
it has like
search sports weather and everything
i have my main hompage set to some firefox version of google
still google!
Firefox: my personal blog (just to remember me that it is abandoned)
Opera: www.rogerfederer.com
IExplorer: my website in frihost (almost abandoned, too)
www.xleague.tv
The UK's first eSports channel and it get's my vote.
google.pl/ig
I'm from Poland
Mine had been about:blank for quite a while, when I shifted it to a custom made homepage, having the favorites grouped at one place, prioritized.. I have links to favorite songs, games... similar to an Internet Caf'e front page (wondering how many frihosters een visit them nowadays)
Warm Regards,
Chrisjs wrote:

Same here, except I use firefox and when it doesn't restore it goes to http://frihost.com/forums/
about:blank
it used to be Google, though, but since it's already built in Firefox,
I really see no point of putting anything else.
it could be about:mozilla, but I don't like red color.
funny thing, when you enter about:mozilla in safari, it doesn't load anything...
It's because browsers have diffrent About: pages.
IE: about:tabs will bring you to a page that explains tabs in IE7, but nothing shows up when you type it in firefox.
I've set up Firefox to open 4 tabs for my homepages...
Here they are:
Gmail | Yahoo! Answers UK | Freecast.co.uk | BBC News Technology
I don't use IE - I hate it - the only time I use it is when I have to use Windows Update or when I'm on someone else's computer and they don't have any other browsers.
Australian Yahoo! - even though I never actually use anything on that side besides the email! lol
i use yahoo as my starting page so that i can easily access to my mails...

I have apple as my start page...but that's just cause I have a Mac and that's the default startpage....I've just been too lazy to change it. I usually go to hotmail and yahoo first thing and check my web email accounts so I should probably change the start page to one of those.
I use Opera and the start page is the Opera Speed Dial page with 9 options that contain :
1) My Website Address
2) My another Website
3) cp.frih.net
4) www.google.com/adsense
5) www.gmail.com
6) http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_500?qterm=
7) http://www.frihost.com/forums
My Website Address
9) http://192.168.1.222/forum (Our local forum address)
Well the questionaire is now satisfied, i think.
Oh my God, the 8 ) number is changed to the Glasses Smilie
Google.pl is first on all my browsers.
google.com
I use Firefox and I've got an addon which saves the tabs open from last time, so it varie s.
There is only one page worthy of my start page and that of course is Google.com my favorite search engine, and the best in my opinion!
My browser's start page is just blank now; I used to use My Yahoo! as my main browser's start page, but since my computer did not seem to like loading the pages in a prompt manner (lagging, freezing, etc. ensued), I had to remove it. While my current computer has a homepage, I chose to not let it start up on that page; instead, it's just blank. My home page is just the index of my offline server (which I use to test-run my sites before uploading/updating them), and I rarely use it now.
I've always had a blank, 'cause it loaded faster on my gool ol' dial-up.
Now with DSL, it's Google.fr.
just the basic msn homepage .... I know its lame, but it dosen't really matter to me where I start off it is only a few keystrokes to get anywhere else.
http://vertigogaming.net
That's mine!
Yeah, sometimes I have Google as my start page though, it varies.
I have that personalized google webpage. I think it's called iGoogle. Kind of a lame name. Ah well, it's pretty nifty.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/
I don't watch TV/listen to the radio/read newspapers whilst I'm away at uni, so I set it to BBC News in order to avoid virtual isolation for eight months of the year.
hmm,
http://www.gmail.com, http://www.facebook.com
GMail because all my univ. announcements are forwarded there, and facebook because I recently joined it and its some what fun

My start page is not very original because I use firefox's default homepage
I think netvibes is good but long to configurate !
I dont use a homepage -- I just set my session to "save". I usually have Google Reader, GMail, Meebo, and pandora open, though.
about:blank is my startpage
My homepage is the United States Naval Academy intranet page. It's terribly useful. It has links to the Plan of the Day, tomorrow's Plan of the Day, the menus, a webcam watching the Barbar Shop, the Mislo, the Strategic Plan, the MIDS system (which is also terribly useful), the Midshipmen development center (which has some excellent chairs), and so on and so forth. Normally, I'd have it as Google, but I have a toolbar for that, so rock on Intranet home page!
apple's startpage so I can check out for news all the time
i'm a fairly boring-and-standard google, or blank. for a brief time i was one of those twelve-different-tabs homepage people, now i just save what i'm doing.
yeah same! LOVE google. Its just so useful having it as the homepage because i use google soooo much that its so easy to just click on internet explorer icon and google just comes up.
About:Blank hahahah
I have thottbot.com as my homepage. I play wow in windowed mode so that i can check thottbot and not have the game window take forever to come back up.
I have google.com.uy
I had about:blank a years months ago
I used the Firefox Google page for a while. Now I use iGoogle, which is freaking cool. The sort of gadget type things are brilliant and when I open Firefox, my personal iGoogle page brings up everything I need to get moving. A brief e-mail in-box summary, local weather, multiple search bars, the current date (which I need displayed very large in front of my face frequently as to not forget
) and even tabs for multiple applications. Google really knows what's up. Oh yeah, I even have moon phases on my iGoogle homepage- not that I'm really concerned about the nightly moon phases but just because I have the option to be.
I use www.yahoo.com. It has all my news, mail, and everything. You can customize your page to show whatever you want.
for firefox: my website at frihost...
i am working on it...
for opera: http://portal.opera.com/ (didn't change it but rarely start with homepage)
I'm using Firefox and my start page was sympatico.ca, it's the default start page because I am with the internet provider "Bell Canada" but FINALLY I have changed it because after 2 years, I was pissed off of all the crap they are talking about + advertising. So now I have the Google News since the last week and my life has changed !
I just use the about:blank page. I close and open the windows so many times each day, that even if I chose my favorite site in the world, I'd still see it far more than I need to!
But if I had to choose a real page for a start page, I'd choose salon.com.
My start page is always a blank page. It's been like this ever since I use to use internet explorer and it would pop a stupid message saying if it was online or not. It's now years later and still like a perfect blank page even when I'm connected 24/7 with dsl.
I've usually set my homepage to finance.yahoo.com though. I use google often but I don't usually surf the internet searching for something.
Kept changing it, but now it's been the same quite a while. That is a Swedish community for cat-lovers,
and though not every session evolves to surfing there, we feel more updated, and that's why we kept it.
Earlier, I was a typical 'blank-pager'. Always searching for the fast way, as few obstacles as possible.
What??, I found no one using Orkut as their starting page of web browser!........Well for me it is always orkut, also I use contest sites as homepage when I am in a mood to win.
Orkut is a fast loading page but what is annoying is the "no donuts for you" page which appears when their is a server break down.
By the way I have never used about:blank or google homepage as most of you have mentioned.
Take care...
depends on the browser
Aol browser the start page is AOL but home page is Yahoo
On Safari Apple homepage
and on internet explore it also yahoo
For a long time I had a BUNCH of start tabs. These included Gizmodo, Google, fark, digg, reddit, wikipedia, woot, and an even dozen others. I finally realized that reading all this B.S. news wasn't making me any smarter, and in fact. Most of the news that I read, I didn't retain even a full day.
I've pared my start tabs now down to the following: google, hotmail, wikipedia, and mit open course ware.
I'm slowly breaking away from the black hole of the internet.
Love,
Uwe
wikipedia. because you cant go wrong with wikipedia.
Wikipedia is great, though you have to be careful. I'm still with about:blank as my start page, and netvibes.com as my home page. This way when I open my browser I get a blank page, and if I want I click home to go to netvibes.
My start up page is MSN.com, gotta see the news first with a cup of cappuccino
My browser's start page is About:Blank. It's home page is http://www.yahoo.com. My default search page is set to Google.
On my other computer, it's start page is Yahoo! It's home page is GeeksToGo Forums and the default search page is still Google.
http://www.abc.net.au/news
Everything you could possibly want at your fingertips, and even better - no ads!
The default!
http://www.google.com/firefox?client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official
who uses that these days anyway? I got the delicious booksmarks toolbar for firefox and all my bookmarks are displayed as buttons and with nice icons. The best part is that I can share them across my home, work, windows, linux machines
Ho yeah i forgot to say that Sympatico.ca is MSN, pure crap.
I use Firefox and have google as my start up page with various links in my task bar.
blank page forever
i got firefox and i always got my last session with all the tabs again
Mine is Lycos. Together with a Yahoo toolbar it works fine for me.
When I use IE7 it is www.baidu.com,but if I use firefox it is www.google.cn
I have my default page set to www.google.com with the igoogle feature turned on and gmail and all that cool stuff
i don't use opera frequently but it changes its start page(speed dial), in fact 9 start pages in one page. when you open opera or open a new tab, you see a page with 9 snapshots. and you can change them as you like. for more info visit the flash tutorial here.
My start page is the good old about blank page.. The best if you ask me!
Google of course, I think like 90% of people have Google? Apart from Macs I think where the people are a bit different and might keep the apple home page. But I really can't be bothered going to Google 10,000 times a day so it has to be my start page.
www.google.se
Very good, just press at "startpage" and you come to google and then you search on whatever you want, and mostly you find the answer!
Google is your friend!
May Google be with you!
My start page is Google. Yeah, yeah, it's a cliché but I don't want to have any downloading delays on a page that isn't relevant that day.
I actually thought forum is boring kind of thing. But when read the forums i am liking it like anyting.
This particular i liked the startup that you have used Netvibes. Its really a cool website.
As you have used Yahoo, i have used google, yahoo, hotmail and my own personal website, giveawayoftheday.com and etc.. etc.. but was never satisfied. Then jumped over to the Blank Page.
Hey the start-up page on my browser is .....
www.google.com (no way)
www.yahoo.com (no thought to keep)
www.live.com (just go away)
then its finally ---- Hey its About Blank (it is also not)
I'll keep it blank so that soon after there i can enter my needed web page name..
Donot waste time to delete the start up page... Always keep it more than about blank..
How to do it - just try to do it.........!
The Holy Grail of all bookmarks is GOOGLE!
next to my other fav forum
None, Opera brings my last session when its starts...
My start up page is wavewatch.com =D
I'm using internet explorer and when I open my browser Onet.eu opens up
Sometimes I change it to hedonskate.com or google.com
I use about:black in IE and black page is Firefox.
I usually use www.asse-solidarite.qc.ca , a student union here in Quebec, or www.nefac.net , the NorthEastern Federation of Anarchist-Communists.
I'm actually considering getting on to netvibes, which rawks.
i allways start my day checking the news on www.shanghaidaily.com. Not a good site at all, but it's nice to check out some news, have some coffee and breakfast.
I have http://nws.noaa.gov and http://usaweather.net
most people go online and check the weather in the morning or the news and this solves the weather aspect along with the fact I am interested in weather.

Which is absolutely great, and if you closed all tabs you get the speed dial. No need for www.google.com as well, since there's a search field implemented in Opera! (no nasty addon bar, but a native search function)

btw this feature is available in all major browsers now, including IE7 and Firefox2.
I use iGoogle, but the page from the first post http://www.netvibes.com/ seems to be better. I will try it.
My home page is http://bergon.net , this is my internet provider
.
I use Opera function "last session"
Opera rocks
i've drifted around a couple times, but i keep on going back to msn.com as my homepage. It has the most interesting headlines, next to digg of cource so i guess logically digg would be a better homepage but i'll stick with MSN anywase
well.. its my website nowadayz that i have as a startup page...
which is pakspot.info
but usually itz google
in some cases orkut.com, other about:blank... or google.com.br
About:blank, loading faster
just changed it from sitepoint.com to phpbuilder.com
Good stuff!
At all my computers, at all my browsers(both mozilla firefox and Internet Explorer)
My Start page is....
BLANK!
I currently use Google, in the past I have used Dogpile.
Usually my start page in Google. I use the custom homepage and slap all the stuff I usually look at right there. I can surf the 'net without ever leaving Google! Yay!
Recently, however, I've just stuck with the default intranet page for where I work. It does, after all, have tons of handy links, and with the Google toolbar, I don't really need to have Google [i]right there.[i/]
I sound a lot like a Google ad, don't I?
Anyways, I just make sure my homepage is useful, and pretty quick to load. For a while there I just had a blank one, but that's so boring.
I always change to google.
It's soft, fast and I always use.
Because I go to school online, mine is mostly, www.luminis.nwacc.edu. This allows me to login and take my courses. It also allows me to see my grades, check messages, and grades.
mozzila google homepage
although it looks like there is some cool customisable ones out there which i might start trying
:d
FireFox :- www.youtube.com
Internet Explorer :- www.google.com
This is my routine:
1. engadget.com
2. tuaw.com
3. gizmodo.com
4. dir.bg
Usually i have good ol msn as my start page, seeing as thats my e-mail provider it just makes it easier when im ready to check my mail seeing as im lazy.
But To save start time in the browser i sometimes set my start page to "blank" so that way i can go about doing what i have to do more quickly without having to wait for a page to load and whatnot when starting my browser. Sometimes it can get quite irritating.
I recently build my own start page, with the links to the sites I visit the most.
I really want to find a place in internet when I was able to put my own links, categorized, however, I haven't find a good one. All the ones I know allow me uploading pictures, but usually forbids put links to other pages.
Can anyone suggest a page that offers me that kind of service?
Yay Google.com!!!!! I have instant access to it at any time through a toolbar in firefox, but google is a nice lean white page that loads quickly. mmmmmm google
Also they claim not to be evil, if they even have the guts to say that they are better than most. I'm sure if Bill Gates said that he would immediately be struck by lightning... or at least blush heavily.
hi
my current start page is my blog http://asim.frihost.net
, though it keep on chaging... and sometimes.. to about:blank
Google is my homepage , I don't think to change it
Netvibes seems to be really nice page
http://www.google.nl/ig?hl=nl, my personal iGoogle start page. Google forever!
My homepage is max:start..seen how maxthon won't let you have any other home pages. I'm
that close to quitting(pretend the length of the circle across is me holding up my fingers). But yea, it's quite thr boreing homepage
I use three browser,IE:the start page is www.baidu.com Firefox: is google.cn and greenbrowser: is live.com
Firefox google start page. X3
I like it, it's nice and clean. <3
I'm weird sometimes. >.>; I like to keep my computer clean. I don't like to download things or have too much on my desktop. I usually just have the Bin, My Computer and Photoshop. ^^;
Everything else, I open using run or from the Program Files on my hard drive. >.>;
On my start menu, I have firefox, MS Word and MS Paint. ^^;
I try not to keep anything extra. ^^;
Yeah...
So, google. XD Nice and clean. ^^:
I've now changed it to iGoogle, I like to see the weather, my inbox and RSS feeds all at once it's useful.
i used to use http://en.wikipedia.org
also for a while, simply http://gmail.com because it is the email i use the most.
sometimes, i have used http://rosetta2.com
but now, i am using http://news.bbc.co.uk - it is the best news imo. most unbiased; best coverage
I use http://www.google.com as my default homepage both for Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer. However, almost every time when I start with browsing, I check out other websites first. Maybe I use google because it's so clean and fast so I have feeling that browser loads up faster.
I rarely see my homepage when my browser starts since it just opens all the tabs I had open before (I seem to have an average of 10 tabs open at one time but only really looking at 2 or 3).
But on the rare occasion that I do go to my home page its my personalized google page http://www.google.com/ig
mine is www.shopisuperhighway.com
My startpage is www.realmadrid.se - Our site for the still unofficial peña for Real Madrid in Sweden.
still liking the blank start page, never go to the first site first. GO BLANK PAGE!
i always use google
because
serching
searching images
mail(most wanted)
google maps
alerts
online google talk
translate (using very rarely because the transalated text is too stupid to read)
i have Mozilla Firefox and Internet Explorer so i have two home pages that i use, they are:
first and my main one is goggle.com
the other is tiscalie.co.uk
Orkut, because oh the wife. =(
hi,
my browser start page is google most of the time but keeps on chaging.. and somtimes it just about:blank page.
i have set my home page to blank...its useful if your in a hurry and want to open a new webpage aside from yahoo or google...
For a long time my start page has been www.google.com and it still is. I'm thinking, however, of changing it to www.woot.com because it makes so angry when I miss out on great deals.
Mine is www.nu.nl
It's a Dutch site which automatically gives me updates on the last news and things that have happened in Holland or anywhere around to world. So I always know what's going on when I start browsing the internet
Afraid to say, I'm boring and have Google! Although I regularly check Facebook and the BBC news website, if I got used to using the built in google search thing, I might change it to one of those...
Mine is always my web

Google.com offcurse its fast and i use it allot
my homepage is a recruit links
so im not allowed to post it, but i do not make any real cash of it, so i guess it is ok to post it, if i wearn
recruitlink:
my homepage: nwm it is not allowed, but another homepage is use is gladiatus.nl
i did not make it an url so you can only use it if you want, and it is posting you homep[age
(i guess im not breaking any rules since you can't click on it andf i said it is a links so you know what happens.
Right now I have nothing as my start page. - Just because I am lazy, I suppose. But it's sort of good not having something screaming in your face, just because you need to go online.
I've had sites like DeviantArt and Google in the past. But hey, a nice blank screen is nice from time to time, I suppose I don't get that easily distracted by it
Works intranet page atm, but at home its just the default firefox/google search page.
am the blank page, because felt like this quite good, does not want as soon as to open has the website strip to come out.
hmm.. firefox restores my sessions... otherwise about:blank ..
love that page ! the design the content !!! so clean and pure !
My start page is the last pages that were there when i closed Firefox. eg. if i closed firefox just now and reopened i would be seeing the post option XD
I'm boring like everyone else - it's Google!
However, at work its the standard intranet page. That's actually more useful, because it's got all sorts of links to different resources I use often.
Cool websites, all.
google.com/firefoxarquirulesyeah
[joke] i know, i rule [/joke]
I put my own site as my homepage. www.verystory.com
Google, simple and useful
My browzer starts off with the regular aol page. Mostly because I am too lazy to change it, but also because it gives me quick facts about my account. For example, it tells me when I have new mail, even though about half of it is stupid spam mail.
"And thats my two cents."
I like to use Pageflakes. It has everything I need, and it's the only startpage I've ever tried (and I've tried a LOT) that really does everything I need it to, and works fast enough.
http://reformrevolution.com
- it´s a great site what bring us news about design, art, illustration and more... So then, this is good to me and my job...
Mine is actually My eBay, since I like to keep tabs on items I'm watching. As for Google, I don't need to set that as a homepage tab when I've got it as a toolbar in the browser (so effectively I've got access to it at any time).
iGoogle. It has a nice interface and you can customize all the things that are displayed
. To use it you need to have an account on google.
Btw ... if you have an account on google... you will benefit from the history of what you search: after some time google will learn that if you try to search the "abc" word, you want a specific page... and it will bring that page to the top of the search results list.
My own website, to drive up my Alexa ranking. For shame.
I have mine at about:blank on Internet Explorer, while Mozilla Firefox is still using the default Firefox-Google start page, Konqueror is using the blue default thingy and Opera... Well, you know what it's got.
I use netvibes, they just came out with a really cool upgrade called ginger
I have just changed it to www.netvibes.com. Before that I had one of the most popular Polish webpages www.onet.pl
.
I have this really cool site in my Homepage now: http://pageflakes.com
It's full of widgets, and very customizable. Very useful.
i got about:blank for my IE browser, as it starts up very slowly and I don't want to waste any more time on it. And I'd like to type everytime the address in it instead.
But I have Google as the startup page in Opera, which starts in a lighting blick and will take me to the portal of the whole internet. For firefox, I set it to my school homepage to check news.
wikipedia. used to be google, but i realized i used wikipedia a lot, and i didnt feel like putting it in the bookmarks. so i just hit home.
Digg.com - Get my daily dose of news and current events from there.
I have it set to Tibia.com. Tibia is an MMORPG that I play frequently, and I don't use Google or Wikipedia as much, as I use almost everything I frequent in bookmarks.
Using google atm, but I've used superstart.se before. It's a swedish page that consists of configurable blocks of stuff that you customize in what way you want em. The block contains stuff like weather, news, TV programs, calendar, search engines and stuff like that. It's kinda nice actually but I'm too lazy to reconfigure it since I lost my old configuration.
depends which comp but it ranges from:
bebo
google
bbc homepage
they are the sites i use well at elast used to use the most ofter=n!!
Firefox's speeddial plugin :)
Mine's the default Firefox/Google start page.
I usually start surfing by Googling junk, anyway (if I'm not checking my RSS feeds, that is).
kansloos wrote:

What, they nicked that from Opera too? I bet the fanboys are claiming Mozilla was the first, just like they do with tabs.
mine is just my customized google homepage. can't beat google!
Just default firefox google.
My home page is always set to google. Page loads instantly and I can get email within a click or 2.
Nice and uncomplicated.
I have my start page set to my.yahoo.com
The scary thing is the list of sites I have in my "Dailies" folder for Firefox... somewhere around 30
On IE its Yahoo! and on Firefox is the default google page.
LoL
It depends upon my mood
Usually it may be - www.google.com
or
It may be a blank page.

With opera, I don't really use a start page. I either start off with that blank speed-dial thing, which I haven't used since I reinstalled it, or, I continue with a previous tab. It's really useful!

I have been using Firefox as my browser and set the starting page to BLANK PAGE, for my Firefox HOME PAGE I set it to my personal HTML file, it's all about my online pending tasks and necessary links for that tasks so it can reminds me to complete all of my online pending tasks before start another tasks. Certainly, I have to update that file regularly, day by day, but that no problem for me.
By the way, it helps me a lot.
Of course, I have been using personal organizer software as well, but I prefer using my personal HTML file as my quick reminder rather than the organizer which I use it as my long term organizer.
mine is google.com its the best way to start surfing
I have http://xtm.110mb.com/ as my start page of course! All tho im thinking about changing it to the blank page for my start page since it loads so much faster on startup then you can just simply hit your home button if you want to go to your start page
about:blant is my favor.it could save time for me.
after all,it should take time to load those pages.
I use the about:blank page. Our browser is slow
about:blank, then i go to yahoo to check my mail.
My browswer defaults on aol.com.
I use aol for all me email and to take care of my instant messages, it is just a nice tool that you can use... For Free!
My home page on Fire Fox, is www.mofunzone.com, which is my game / downloads site.
However on Internet Explorer, Frihost.com, is my Home page
My start pages are as follows
Firefox = about:blank
IE7 = MSN.com (This is by default. Who cares to use IE and change it something else!)
Opera = Speed Dial
I still use msn.com, and always have for as long as I can remeber.
Thinking about changing it though, I think it is time for a change, I am getting kind of sick of the same old look everytime I open up my web browser.
I just need a suggestion for a new one with news and weather on it updated normally.
Any suggestions out there?
mines used to be yahoo for a loong time. Then i switched to frihost so i could remind myself to post more often. Then i started using firefox instead of internet explorer and i've just left it to the default firefox thing :p I should probably change mine back to yahoo or frihost
I use a custom page that I made and Is on my Frihost server. It is just the Atomic Dingo Productions logo as the background, and every time I have to remember to do something important, I will edit the page and put what I have to do in bold text at the top.

Mine is www.naver.com. it's one of famous portal sites in korea
Gotta say I use Google as well. Though I have never set up my personal page...I think I might just go do that.
FreeRice.com so I can donate rice whenever I feel like it XD~
always begin the day with some fresh guardian news and a nice cup of tea
Always Google for me...it seems like THE logical place to start for everyone.
wow, I can't believe this thread is continuing for so long. I love it.
My home page is still the same, I use about:blank for startup, and netvibes.com for the home page. The difference being when I start up the browser I get about:blank, and if I want I can hit "home" to get to netvibes... which takes a little while to load because it's so full of RSS feeds and such.
I dont like start up browser pages. So i use always blank page at start-up. I hae a lot of bookmarks in favorite sites menu so i can easily download it any time i want.
about:blank is just perfect.
It loads fast and never disappoints you.
I'm a Google addict, eGoogle plemty of custom widgets
google
i normally use google but at the moment im using yahoo.
well i play a free mmorpg so my homepage is my league's(guild, group whatever you want to call it) forum this way i am always up on my gamer family's posts first
I'm using Google right now. Very boring, I know. I'll have to try and come up with something better...
Mine is Google, nothing unusual there.
Good old google.com - the usual shiet
google ja
My iGoogle Home page using firefox of course
Google on Firefox and Yahoo on IE7.
Best what? That stupid person just placed Yahoo's front page inside a frame and used some sort of javascript to add its name to the page. I think that's not legal to do that.
use altavista thier url is nice and ez av.com
^Are Altavista's search results good? Long time I don't use it.
mine is "about:" which provides a nice page with info about FireFox
Same goes for thunderbird.
On IE I've set as homepage a link to a html page that crashes Internet "Exploiter" since I don't use it and I don't like it.
Currently I have Firefox 3 starting up with my deviantART page, as well as automatically opening Google Reader and my FurAffinity message centre. However, I find myself adding and removing multiple addresses from that list on a daily basis as my needs for certain pages change in frequency.
bbc.co.uk
even though i live in the u.s. haha
telescream, they have international news, don't they?
I like BBC too.
I have My Yahoo as my homepage. It's quick and easy to added news feeds and check email. Has weather, sports, and all kind of crap just a click away. I recommend Google for a search engine though. I tried that iGoogle or whatever it is and it's pretty much the same as Yahoo. Old habits just die hard.

Mine is google.fr! But i used to have another website with firefox, which was webtoweb.fr !
My homepage is Google. I always need to search something
I have my portfolio at www.bjornblomquist.com
I am a creature of habit, and every since Yahoo have taken off I have been using it. Like the way it is layed out. I very rarely read newspapers and do not own a television or watch the news, so usually when I do have time, and am interested, will scan the headlines. If there is a real hot news item, then I will go much deeper into it and use various news Websites to get the facts. For that I really like BBC News Website.
www.netvibes.com
It's a pretty sweet start page. I've got RSS feeds from my most-read websites along with a little facebook app, Twitter app, To-Do list, and weather app.
Mine is blank since I don't always want to go to the same place...

u ever seen the page called about:mozilla?
try to open it in netscape version 6 or 5 and see the text it shows..
also try in IE and see the color...
there is a nice story behind this..

Mozilla's Firefox start page
i have 2 browsers; on ie7 they let u use more than one homepage, so i used runescape.com (i love mmorpg games) and an about:blank page. i also use Mozilla Firefox 3 my homepage is www.home.live.com
I use iGoogle. I have the page customized to display all the relevant news stories, weather, email and info I want to see every day when I open my browser. I have been using iGoogle for at least 3 years now. Before that, I used My Yahoo for several years as the start page and had it set up similarly to the way I use google now. I switched over to iGoogle when I divorced Yahoo Mail for Gmail.
....Frihost server status XD
LOL currently its the firefox google search page, nice and simple ^_^
I've changed from Google to EttKlickForSkogen.se (a fund-rasing charity site) and 1cps.org (1 Click Per Search, it's using Google but it shares the ad revenue with Google, the money raised goes to different charity projects).
I enjoy using opera's 'blank page' capability, where you can have 9 different tiles representing links to, of course, 9 different websites. It's fun and aesthetically pleasing.
well Netvibes is really cool but I simply use Google as a tradition.I was using "blank page" also.
google
always has been!
about:blank mostly
though google.com ain't bad either
Haha, I just discovered about:robots (just in Firefox though).
It is quite amusing. I'll be using that as my start page from now on.
My website.
I used to have it go to cpanel, but I got bored of it.
It was www.xkcd.com for awhile. It's an awesome webcomic. I would rate it pg-13 though, so be careful if you're young.
mozilla google
I don't click for the browser when I log in..........the damn ISP opens 2 windows by default, one for the ISP account homepage and the other for its offers.
There is a script to disable this, but I didn't bother..........as it saves me the trouble of manually starting the browser
My browser start page is FACEBOOK
I don't have a special browser start page...I had my school's webmail 'till july but I finished school. I'm going to put iGoogle, very useful!
I use blank page or Google but...
I was thinking about creating my own page with all the links I visit regularly. Designed the way I want, organized the way I like it… No ads, only my own personal page, local… Nice idea?
Just need some time to work on it.
I use the default fire fox Google page. ^_^

Seriously. Using the less polluting approach to environment, it seems reasonable apply the same to Internet: avoid transfer unnecessary information. But, on the other hand, there is no site, that would be interesting to me to check twice a day, 730 times in year.
I use Firefox and have it set to open 11 regularly used tabs. The very first one though is the TV guide and I use the Google search field instead of wasting a tab on it.
Olly
homepage for firefox...
www.google.com.tr
homepage for IE
my own forum
http://www.princeforum.co.nr
I use Google.com as my browser start page. I began doing that because at least 95% of the time I end up going there first anyway. I use it as my search engine, I use Google mail, Gmail. (I've used Gmail ever since you still had to have an invitation to sign up for it, while it was still deep into the beta testing phase.) And now with Google maps, I rarely use Mapquest anymore, and Google images ... well, I'm just tending to use Google more all the time.
Plus, I heard on NPR (National Public Radio) a few days ago that Google will soon launch a cell phone service! I'd like to get into the beta testing for that too!!
IMHO .. Google is one of the best search engines going. But I'd like to hear what others have to say about different search engines too.
My 2 cents,
Chad
I have two browsers on my laptop as well as my desktop. In my laptop, ie7 is yahoo browser that i used while mozilla firefox3 is google browser is the one that i used also.
My startpage is very simple: about:blank
google.com if i must use internet explorer...... but since i'm using chrome now i just use the default most visited pages start screen
http://www.henqq.com is my home page . Because it is my web site .
I've got my start page set as igoogle with all my news feeds and things
If you use opera as your browser, they have a function called "speed Dial" where you set nine of your favorite sites to appear when you start it up. i'll see if i can get a shot of it...
nope sorry i cant, i tried
. Opera is really cool because if you want to keep using a site but have to get off, then instead of closing it by the tabs, then if you just close the browser out, the next time you get back on opera, instaed of showing the speed dial page, it shows you the pages you were on last.
I got tired of waiting for some webpage to load so I started using a local page with links to all the places I usually go. it's a lot faster and I don't ever have to wait for a page to load that I am not interested in.
I normally don't use the homepage, I'm used to use the previous session but sometimes I use my website as homepage
My home page is meebo. =O
facebook is my home page.
www.netvibes.com
very useful starting page.
For Safari, my main browser, I don't have a start page. For Firefox however, my browser that I use for everything that doesn't work in Safari, I have Facebook set as the start page.
Useful, but amazing how much more time you spend somewhere once you make that decision to put something as your home page.

I don't feel pain, unless it's with a red crayon. My music is bought by my mother. I had an i-pod as a place mat.
My favorite colors are thus - I don't have any favorite colors, my imagination is color blind. I have to go to bed now as it's 9.29pm. Good Bye.
One is Yahoo, the other is Bungie.net. Both sites are insane.
But Bungie still owns Yahoo in the long run.

I can't say why, but I've had Google as my home page for years now. I guess I like the plain white google page on loading. It's less of an assault on my senses when starting the browser up in the morning! |
Google ROCKS!
I appreciate the 'Less is better' approach. I cant stand being assaulted with ads, and hundreds of links around my home page!
This thread got me thinking though; there are a lot of engines out there that I have never heard of before. Think I will go and check em out.
Gotta be igoogle
So helpful the way you can add and take away I have even designed my own backing so a nice combo of my artwork and news stories and my gmail e-mails.
What could be better????
I use MyYahoo (cm.my.yahoo.com)
I used to use Cnn.com, but now I just use digg.com for my homepage and all my news.
i just uses google
Mine is blank. I do not trust setting homepage as if my hosts file is compromised or something bizzare security hole in browser then it is very easy to redirect to page that hacker wants.
Google with that personal settings feature... It kinda delivers that easy and fast summary of whatever news and stuff your into (provided you've chosen the right boxes)...
hehe...www.gaiaonline.com

I use the Chrome default. It's a good way to speed dial stuff.
I either have the about:blank page or yahoo search
It is about:blank hehe!
I used www.hao123.com as the start page on my browser before! also have used baidu.com.but now I set up nothing!
yahoo... with my login page.... quickest way to check all my rss feeds and the news
Just whatever I had open last time. Usually my Gmail.
Depends of the browsers and computer... At home I use “blank” for Firefox and “Google” for Internet Explorer… At the work, I use “Google” everywhere because I need it whenever I open new tab or window.
I think google because i search a lot
Earlier i used to have orkut as my homepage. Used it for quite some time. Then when I began playing contests on Internet i set up contests2win as my homepage. Currently This is the homepage.
Although I am now thinking to set www.chalbol.com as my homepage.
yahoo.com
it have interesting news some time..
like news about obama
My start page isn't anything interesting, it's just Google.com. I suppose it should be Gmail.com though, as that's usually the first page I start on. I never really have had a custom start page. Maybe I should look into that.
I use homestarrunner.com as my homepage. Dunno why, since I usually use the Homestar Wiki when I'm checking for updates.
Sometimes a use google like my start page, other times I use design por advertising pages, like reform & revolution, thats why i work in this stuffs, so its good to see new things when i just start my work day every morning... The google is good because is very fast and usefull too...
This topic gave me an idea, i will try to look for some new start page right now, maybe something different, weel, first i need to find some time to spend looking for this new start page and then I will...
Google of course. Any other pages either contain too many advertisements or are too slow to load.
I hate msn.com as my default page because either it is too slow or the page is full of unwanted flashes or pics.
Mine is Google.com too. It's the most convenient page anyone can have as a start page.
Mine is google.com for FF and IE (if I ever used it) and the Chrome start page for Chrome obviously. Chrome has a few things they need to work out first though before I make it my normal browser.
For my firefox I use the blank page just so it loads up a tad bit faster
google.com. but it become my default home page when downloaded google toolbar .
I have the Opera community as my homepage.
http://www.google.com/ig Is my Startpage i think it is better then netvibes
I used Yahoo for a long time now I am using only google.com because it is very usefull when you need to find something fast by searching with them!!!!!
My first page is www.gmx.at.
clean, non personalized, pure GOOGLE.PL webpage
It's the most usefull webpage ever (well ... for me, not for everyone I think ...)
Mine is my google homepage. It has some cool packman games and a direct link to my email :p And ofcourse, google search at the top ;p
Always google.com man! i though everyone had google as their homepage. I guess not
I'm such a loser; I have YouTube. XD
I'm using the default for my browser - Firefox. It's Google, but twisted for Firefox (with their logo and all... But it's basically Google.)
I used to use Yahoo but now I switched to google because it is better
i have the new google chrome browser (fastest web browser there is)
and it has a cool starts page where it show you your most visited sites in an easy to read way
if i had a webpage as my start page i would use msn.com
My browser homepage is Yahoo.com.
I just formated my computer few days ago, so a dont have a start page yet, I mean, a good one, you know?
While i dont find this one im using google like my start page, this is a good choise i think, because I can do a lot of things and solve a many question from google´s start page
I use chrome, so I have 9 thumbnails of my most used sites. Included: Gmail, Facebook, Lifehacker, Youtube, GAOTD (though recently there's been only crap on there), xkcd, cyanide and happiness, last.fm, and google search.
Google loads quick - annoys waiting for a startpage to load
Mine was kodewerx.org for a bit, then I changed it to google.com for a while. Now I use my router's IP address, so I can easily edit my router at the click of a button. I love Mozilla though. It eliminates the need for a homepage and replaces it with auto loading tabs. I can be browsing 6 different pages (Yahoo Mail, Kodewerx, etc. etc. ) and if I exit out of it and shut down my PC, the next day, I can open it and it will load everything I was on as if I never stopped browsing. It is a nice feature that helps avoid multiple windows opened up at once.
Google, as with any self respecting person.
However! Opera's URL bar search tools and speed-dial have really alleviated much need for that. Now I just type "g Hat" and it automatically googles hat, or 'y' for youtube, or whatever else I wish to set ^^
Live.com is my home page, I like the new image every day.
Wow, netvibes looks worth the signup. Google chrome has this thing where, if you tweak it, it starts up with a poor imitation of opera's "New Tab" screen. Basically, it shows your most recently visited webpages in a 3 x 3 matrix of boxes. Sometimes its a good thing, othertimes it can work against you. Once, I had visited a torrent website which included rather *good* ads. Stupid little chrome captured that page and the next time my tech-unsavvy girlfriend used the computer she accused me of er... ya well. Regardless, I find it useful to have a collection of webpages open at your disposal. I have two main complaints about chrome's startpage, which I'm hoping netvibes will take care of for me. 1 is that the little boxes merely contain an "image" of the webpage rather than a minimized (or shrunk) version of the actual updated website homepage. 2 is that its rather bland. White. Don't get me wrong, I use chrome for the speed (eat that firefox users, ur SLLOOOOOWWWWW). Nothing more nothing less. Opera was the fastest until chrome came along and that was always my browsers. Anyway, I think I've gone past the 5 point mark, so I'll shut up. Thanks for the netvibes link, it looks really promising.
about:blank
I refuse my browser to load anything without my knowledge
Yeah has to be google.co.uk
fast loading and can search or i just click on one of my bookmark toolbars under the address bar
about:blank
fresh start everytime i log on. no stallin or waitin. just a blank page waitin to be filled
I use for starting FEEDJITLIVE ( http://live.feedjit.com/live/isetehtud.pri.ee/ )
To see who has visited my website.
mine used to be about:blank, but then i've realized that loading up a website doesn't take as long as i had once thought. so, i use google.ca/ig now. with various personalization such as my gmail account, notes, weather and other random things popping up along with it.
I've got my own website as home page.
not the one I have here at frihost but my first webpage which is a portal (start) site from where I can go where ever needed ,
I wont post the url as the forum message says that this is not to promote my own webpage
I use Google Uruguay. My country's Google site.
I usually use iGoogle as my start page.
i use google too as my start page
