Unable to Connect to Any FriHost Member Websites

ninjakannon
Okay, so FriHost has been pretty good up until now. But something odd is going on... Even when the server 2 appears to be fine (see picture below) I cannot connect to any of the websites situated on server 2. I don't know about server 1, however.

As I type I'm trying to load my website on server 2, Internet Explorer still hasn't connected to the server, yet oddly everything is "UP" - Apache is usually the problem, but according to http://frihost-server-status.us.to/ it's fine, everything's fine. In fact the server has been up for over 2 days now.

This is happening increasingly and - not being the best on this subject - don't even know why. Confused

Oh, and now I get "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".

I hate to complain as FriHost's service has been unrivalled up until now and at the moment remains so. I'm just a bit peeved, that's all.

EDIT: I'm really confused. I can't connect to http://www.ninjakannon.frih.net however I can connect to http://www.forum.ninjakannon.frih.net/phpbb/ where my forum is located. Furthermore, I've set my login on my forum to remember me, however it doesn't when this happens. Whatever this may be.

(I just added in the second 'n' in both 'ninjakannon's above.)

Your website loads perfectly and so does your forum.
The cannot connect error usually occurs every 30 mins or so and lasts for around 5 mins.

Now it is working perfectly.

Bonfings says that he thinks he has solved the problem of the downtime by removing a certain page from an exploit website on server 2.

Things may be getting better

Okay thanks, scorpio.

For some reason my site still doesn't load for me, I'm going to close my browser and see if it works when I re-open it.

EDIT: No change! I still can't connect to my site, however my forum works fine. I simply cannot understand what's gone wrong, there should be no difference between my access to either. Confused
Bondings
Ninjakannon, could it be that you are forgetting to type a second n? At least the 2 urls you posted don't have that one and hence don't work.

Try these:
http://www.ninjakannon.frih.net
http://www.forum.ninjakannon.frih.net/phpbb/
ninjakannon
I would have said, yes it was that if I had been missing them out.

I'm using the link saved in my address bar saved URL list, which has both 'n's, however I did miss them out in my first post and didn't spot that. I typed them up by hand a little too quickly.

Anyway, I've found some fault with Internet Explorer 7 because I can open my site from the link you gave me, Bondings, but not by typing it into my address bar. I have no idea what's wrong there.

EDIT: Okay, I've found out what the problem is! I can go to http://www.ninjakannon.frih.net, http://www.forum.ninjakannon.frih.net/phpbb and http://forum.ninjakannon.frih.net/phpbb but not http://ninjakannon.frih.net.

For some reason I cannot connect to my website if I don't add in the "www.". That's the reason why it won't load from my saved URL list (it being saved in there without that).

Thanks for the prompt help guys!

I'd still like to know why I can't load http://ninjakannon.frih.net though. Confused

Very weird, that one works fine for me. It might be a dns/cache issue. Maybe try with a different browser or clear your dns and cache.

Your site "with and without www" opens perfectly for me in both Firefox and IE7.
Try browsing your site without the www using a proxy..

I thought it could be the cache, but I've cleared that and it's still the same. I've found another problem too, my Prototype game doesn't work properly; however, in Firefox I can acess http://ninjakannon.frih.net and my Prototype game works.

How do you clear your DNS? perhaps that's the problem, as you suggest.

You can try this:

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
exit

Type that in a notepad file. save it with an extension .bat instead of .txt [any name will do]

Double click and open the file as usual

Ah right, a .bat file, no wonder I didn't know how to do it (I don't usually deal with any of these - like most people I suppose).

Before I try that, will you please explain what that will do?

Thanks a lot for you patience.

The first one is the most popular and should clear all your cached dns entries on your computer. The other 2 should do something similar, I never used those though. Exit stops the thing I think.

By the way, you can simply execute those commands in a command screen (start, execute, type cmd, type the command in the black screen).

And last but not least, just sleeping 1 or 2 nights will probably also fix it. These kind of things usually have some kind of time constraint and after x hours/days refreshes and you'll get your website back like it used to be in the good old days.

ipconfig deals with network stuff, release releases your network details (dynamic IP, subnet mask, etc) and renew gains new network details. This basically completely resets your connection Smile

You were right! It works fine now, I'm just off out but I had to have a quick check so I switched on my computer and I can access my site as usual. Smile I'm happy now. Razz

Thanks a lot for all the help, if this happens again I'll try those commands and see what happens. Or perhaps I should just reboot, we'll see.

It would probably be best if you locked this topic now.
