Software for video editing

per_madsen_aalborg
Hi,

I recently bought a Hard Disk Camcorder (a Sony DCR-SR90E).

Can anyone recommend software for video editing? I am interested in two things:

    Very basic editing of movie-clips.

Re-encode clips in a format/quality appropriate for putting on a web page.

I am interested in both Windows and Linux software.

Any hints?

Best Regards,

I can give you as advice to buy Adobe Premiere Elements. This package has the most things for changing video files and also to edit them.

I am using this package and i am happy that i have this program.

Windows Movie Maker can do basic editing. Adobe, Pinnacle, and Ulead all have simple editing programs for around $100.

As to web encoding, go to microsoft and check out Windows Media Encoder. It'll create web ready video files. Apple's QuickTime Pro for about $30 will do the same, creating Quictime movies.

Cinelerra (Linux) is the best video editor I've found; I use it for all my video editing. The interface is a little odd and it has high system requirements, but it runs fine on my P4 ~1.5GHz.

Use Pinnacle Studio. It's very user friendly. I use it to create home video from my camcorder.

If you're new to video editing, then stick with the simpler products you can find in any computer store for under $100.
I've used Ulead and Pinnacle in the past, both with great results.
Not familiar enough with Linux products to comment on those, although I've heard of Cinelerrahttp://cvs.cinelerra.org/.
Good Luck!
