i have watched shrek series, sharktale and the mad agaskar....i have been loving the graphics work..specially in shrek..
i m really interested to know how do they do such a crystal clear work in designing..any tactics..softwares...
it would be nice to have some participating in this discussion...coz that could help my curiosity to some extent!!
Take a look at the end credits. While most all of the 3 d animators are versed in good basic 3d skills, modeling, lighting, rigging, texturing, etc., they all have extra, focused experience in these areas. I would imagine most have a good background in 2d animation basics as well, squash and stretch, anticipation, etc.
Couple this with good drawing skills, an understanding of how to use color palettes and on and on...
And then there is the writing...
Start at the beginning. Learn some basic modeling, most 3d programs use similar pardigms to do that, and learn from there. Sorry, no shortcuts!
As far as I know, both shrek and sharktale were made in Maya. Running in linux.
The pipeline of these movies consist of 3d modellers, texturers, lighters, riggers, animator and composers, to say the most important ones.
You can always have a go at being a decent all-rounder, but you should go for one of the above that you enjoy doing. If you haven't had a go at either, start practicing.
I'd reccomend both Maya and 3ds Max, but also Lightwave, Cinema 4d, Softimage, blender, Wings3d, modo and so on. The list is long. Whilst some are just for modelling, others are heavy all-rounders, which do their task galantly.
If you wanna have a go at just modelling, blender is free, and there are tons of tutorials for it online.
As for a program, blender is free and very simple (takes a bit of time to used to), and LOTS OF TUTS to help you, I used it and it was great and had simple interface, only problem I had was trying to get the thing to record the animation, but I soon got it (SLOWLY!!!!)
