Record Streaming Media

ashok
My ISP maintains a site within our network and streams movies and music... I tried to download the streaming media using NetXfer/WMRecorder, but it's not getting downloaded.. previously my isp used to use shoutcast server for streaming and netxfer used to work... now he's on linux and is using Helix Server for streaming, and i'm not able to download anymore...

Any help on downloading the streaming media?

So you're trying to record streaming video or audio. My first suggestion would be to try a different recording program, such as R7C (works with RealMedia and Windows Media) or StreamDown. It could also related to the codec used to decode/encode the streamed media, since your ISP has changed to Linux (probably changing the format of the streaming in the process).

VLC should be able to copy any stream going through it. Try that.

- "Open network stream".
- Mark the appropriate radio button and input the address to the stream.
- Check "Stream/Save".
- Hit "Settings".
- Check "File" and input the filename and location.
- Select the container, video format, audio format, etc. to your preferences. (this part you may have to research)

Not the easiest solution, but it's versatile.

VLC should work. Otherwise try mplayer / mencoder. You have to fiddle around with the command line but it definitely works!
