well, there is no such thing as the BEST science site - each site excels in its own field. but i would recommend the following:

Again, tough to say best, but I find NG is a pretty solid general science newsmagazine and updated regularly.

It depends what you are after.
For teaching and explaining, for research, for publications and peer review papers, for explaining science concepts for the lay audience, for a specific field or for a general technical overview of science news......
There are good sites in each of these areas and if you can be a bit more specific I will gladly share my bookmarks

How about www.newscientist.com
Yes, it requires a subscription to read some of the more in-depth articles, but their features are generally well-written and informed, and they always have up to the minute news.

I would get the stumbleupon addon. You can fill out your interests to be science and stumble thousands f times per day. You might see the same thing twice but that is a rare occurrence.
I think discovery channel is a good site for learn science
Pubmed - It's a journal database. It's the online search engine to use if you're doing research in the biological sciences.
JSTOR - Journal storage database; more oriented for English/humanities, but... whatever.
Some other journals*:
Proceedings from the National Academy of Sciences.
Science.
General websites:
Google News - Check out the sci/tech and health sections.
*A lot of journal sites require online subscriptions. However, many schools subscribe to them, so if you can't access them at home, try it at school.
