New comp, no display

I have been saving up for some time now and just bought a pile of parts ofr a newcomputer.

i put them all together i believe properly though i had some trouble with the power switches.

My problem is when i turn on power to the computer the monitor does not display anything, its an old monito and the light on it remains orange which i believe is the same as the no input error but i am not sure.

i don't know what to do without a screen i cant tell what is going on to check anything in software or even install an operating system on the new hard drive

This is my first straight build so though i have experience swapping i've never started from nothing.

id much apreciate someone telling me if they know why my video cards don't seem to be working.

i found an old speaker as one didn't come in my case and hooked it to the motherboard now it gives me a post of 1 long idk what it means though
i believ it uses Phoenix award or something like that but i can find it out

does your motherboard come with a built-in VGA? You can try pluggin into both the built-in and the AGP slot card. You should probably look through your motherboard manual troubleshoot page and read on the different beeps as to identify the problem. If you have a spare VGA card around, try that too.

You can also try to adjust the monitor cable as old monitors tend to give problems at the cable or tube area. Alternatively, u can remove and slot the AGP card back to its original position. Some motherboards are more seneitive and require some adjustments for the card to work.

Yeah, havent got it plugged into onboard?
1 long beep usually means a device plugged into the PCI slots is malfunctioning - reseat all the componentry and give it a try

yeh , indeed , i would advise to check the beeps.
and , you maybe could blow out some eventual dust in the adapter?

you need to check the mobos manual for what exactly that beep means.

Unplug all connections from your system other than the power lead, power to motherboard, and monitor cable. Sometimes if there is a faulty part on the system this can prevent the rest of it booting and even displaying anything. Also unplug the ram and reseat it.
