I, personally am a member of a few communities on the web.

What I would like to know is if there is a larger world of interesting communities out there..

So, I would like all of you share information about the other forums/communities on the net that you are a part/member of and/or where you actively involve yourself.

Also state the reasons why you are members of that community.

Go on, take over from me.

Wink
Manofgames
Im a member of many communities, most of them though I visit for money Wink

I only really visit two for my own interest -

www.frihost.com/forums

www.namepros.com for the domains Smile
cruisearound
I frequentquite a few car modding forums due to my interest in cars. My main haunt would have to be www.escortevolution.co.uk of which i have been a paying member and very active within this community. Its that bad that its actually on a hotkey on my laptop & probably the first button i press when the laptop gets switched on. I think the reason i have stuck to that particular forum is the fact that its so active from minute to minute & its more than just a car site with the community being so freindly & topics with a wide range & heated discussions at that lol.
b4r4t
I have two more forums , where I'm active... but I'm not sure that they will be helpfull for You Smile

First one is:
ocforum.pl

It's forum about hardware and software ... overclocking, modding and everything about IT Smile

Second one:
prizee.pl

It's forum about french site called prizee.com Smile

There is a third one...
capoeira-konin.info

My capoeira section forum Smile

All of them are in Polish and that is why I'm writing that they may be unhelpfull for You Smile
Aless
LiveJournal is a big vice for me Smile. I also frequent a message board for American expats living in the UK, which is what I am.

lol, no prob scorpio.

Goto http://www.namepros.com and make an account, then goto their 'NP$ incentives' forum (its towards the bottom of the page), and take some of the forum posting jobs.

NP$ are exchangeable for $USD, at a rate of 1NP$ = $0.02USD.

I have 1300 NP from posting jobs and selling stuff, so I have about 15$-25$ dollars or so, if my maths is right Very Happy

You can also get NP$ from namepros for posting, and reffering people(about 26NP$ p/person).
Utopia GFR
Apart from being an active member on Frihost, I am a member of a belgian community (with an international impact) who's website is located here :
http://www.parano.be

You can find further information on the community here (only if you understand French because there isn't any English translation over the document yet on Wikipedia) :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parano.be

I've been there for more than 2 years and my purpose is getting to know more people and taking part in some role playing scenarios (because the core part of the website is taken from a board game called "Paranoia") :
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paranoia_%28role-playing_game%29

I also got enrolled (but finally dropped out) in other online communities like "Utopia" and "Ivy".

Utopia :
http://www.utopiapolis.eu/

Ivy :
http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Projet-Ivy
http://www.projet-ivy.net/

But just like any other online ring, those require time investment and I guess there are so many other things to do than fooling around 24 hours a day on a computer.
Daniel15
The main community I'm active at is the SMF Community Forum at http://www.simplemachines.org/community/ Smile.
Apart from that, it would be my own site (www.daniel15.com), the Ubuntu forum (ubuntuforums.org I think, although I don't visit it much anymore)

What do you mean by visiting them for money?

What do you do for money? Write blogs/posts/articles? And they pay you for what you write?
Manofgames
@ thegifted- posting on peoples forums.
see my other post for details.

I am a member of Namepros for over a month now, though I only have a couple of posts.
I seriously have not found out how to make NP$.
Is selling stuff the only way to make NP$ there or do we get money by posting?
They did mention that NP$ would be given for select posts in the discussion forum
Manofgames
you get np for posting in select forums on their site. (any forum but the marketplace)
but you have to be enabled for post earning to get np on their site.
to do this, make some good posts, then post in the private messages to staff forum and ask to be enabled.

of course some members will pay you np for posting on their forums.
NoManLeftBehind
My main two sites are

www.media-philes.com - a site for multimedia and stuff.

I also visit

www.halopatch.com - a site for halo 2 moders ( not bad ones, ones who do it as a type of art).
gtherockgod
I don't usually do the whole forum thing too much anymore. The main site I frequent is www.nexopia.com

Most people think its just a dumb teen-dating site, but that's only what it is if that's what you use it for. Most of my friends are on it so its a good way for me to keep in contact with them, plus it was started by a guy only like 45 minutes away from me haha, alberta pride Cool

I don't go to many forum communities, but my favorite game community is Second Life. Its such a fun game to play, and you get to meet so many people. If you sign up, put in the recommender's slot my name, which is "Iron Acronym".

Okay let me see..

2. Spreadfirefox - www.spreadfirefox.com - I love Firefox!
3. Hostbidder - www.hostbidder.com - I am not very active there.

Seiji
I'm always visiting:

http://anime-forums.com
http://frihost.com/forums
http://gaijinpot.com

I'm mainly active on these three communities.
rightclickscott
Inksandwich
The Orange Belt
Sketchbattle
Press Start To Play

Not so much right now, but I've been off and on at Kingdom Of Loathing.

There are so many communities out there... there are communities for car clubs (like www.clubneonquebec.com that I visit regularly since I am a proud* **cough cough** owner of a dodge neon 1995), game clubs, hacker clubs, internet geek clubs and even sex communities for couples who want to add spice to their couple by exchanging couple (very weird but I respect their choices).

I personally check out, almost everyday, a community named www.h2kclan.com. It's not a clan and it's not a viking club. It's a community about everything you want to know. I mean, everything! I'm not here to sell this community to you guys, or even publisize this community, but it has done so much to me that I want to give back to them. It would be too long to describe this community, so if you want to know more about it, just check it out!

I Dont have as much time to play on the net as I used too but I do have a couple places I tend to hangout.

http://www.iliketoast.com

This is a great site that a good friend of mine has. I'm the webmaster for it. The site is a forum that is general in nature. Covers everything and everything and is aimed at all ages. There's something there for everyone.

http://www.springfieldlocal4510.com/forums/cmps_index.php

This is another site that is just getting started. Another good friend of mine asked me to help him setup the forums. This site is aimed towards firefighting and he hopes to make it grow.

These are where I have been spending most of my time lately.

Because of this I will be checking the site out again, thanks.

I'm on many forums (usually about blogs), but I'm really active only in one. Another communities that I'm in:

orkut
DeviantART
Last.fm

Fell free to take a look at them. Very Happy
Liu
mostly just this forum
I used to visit gaiaonline when I was a moderator.
SpellcasterDX
I post at these forums: http://boards.nsgstation.com
There's a wonderful community and it's really active. A great board all around. (It's not phpBB, it's its own one-of-a-kind board)

I also post at my forums of course. They're small, and I'm still working on them. When I finish the security upgrade I'm currently trying to implement, 'll advertise so it can get really active. http://boards.sdx.frih.net/
Yjaxygames
Exept for frihost, I am active on some forums of smaller game communites (of sites making games, not sites about games. www.vertigogaming.net is one of those).

And I'm active at darkdemon (www.darkdemon.org). An pretty large community mainly about animating with Pivot stickfigure Animator (a program to make stickfigure animations, who thought that!!!). But also about flash and easytoon. And some general things of course.
nikki
except for frihost......

http://trinimaccohouse.myfreeforum.org

Hello Unregistered , it's great to see you again!

And it was the first time I had been there

I personally am not much of a forums type person ~points at number of posts and reminds self yet again that I must stop by and find threads to post on~ Razz

I most often frequent several sites:

Pony Island www.ponyisland.net It is a pay site and I love making ponies, tattoo's for them and wheeling and dealing on the pony market. I also have recently made an adoptable for use on Pony Island. If anyone would like to check it out you can make a trial account that is good for 20 days. If you do and don't mind if you would use me as your recruiter it would be greatly appreciated... my user name - Mom's Love

Another site I spend a lot of time on is the dreaded Neopets. I am a premium user and am involved in something called Premium Surviver which is fashioned after the Surviver series on TV. I think it is awesome if you would like to check it out my user name is sarina_marie.

I also go to Second Life www.secondlife.com I have met a lot of people there and made some good friends. I design clothing for the avatars and build some other things as well. My user name there is Starlite Schnook. If you stop by look me up if you would like.

Those are my three main hangouts right now they keep me pretty busy when I'm online.
Blaster
forum wise... www.daniel15.com daniel15's site www.letsfilm.net a site i manage.

Maybe that's why your points are so low....your just using frihost while filling your time with others. And they call men users?

And what a shame that is! After your wonderful reply to my dalmation question I checked some of your other posts and was impressed with what I was reading.

Posters like you are of a premuium to forums and I would love to hear more from you, someone who has plenty of valid points to make and things to say.

Even though you admit to being here to make up points (as many people are) you still refrain from posting lots of pointless posts that take no thought or effort. You think, research and put effort into your posts.

Personally I would love to see much more from you, and other people of your ilk, here in FriHost.

So very true my friend.....but I'd still shell out 1,000frih$ if someone could get the Philosopher Princess back.

Now there was an outstanding poster, and friend. I miss her arguements.....wierd huh?
Captain Fertile
I read a few of her posts and I have to say that her logic and ability to command a thread was something else. To be honest I don't think I would have had many dealings with here because I din't have the speed of wits to keep up with her and any argument I could offfer would be blasted out of the water.

I also have a thing about philosphers - Find them rather pretentious and up themselves too much, but that is a shocking generalisiation on my part. Sad

And of course I have never talked with the lady so I would be judging her purely by her name and that aint fair, but at least I got my oppinion of philosphers out in the open.

This lady was a force of nature. I have a Masters degree from MIT and she could shut me up with a single sentence.

I miss her Sad

i used to hang out at my college forum, USTexchange, and some other local university forums in the Philippines, but since getting a job, getting married and not having any time for myself (Razz) and not being a forums posting-person in the first place, i just hang around frihost so as not to get my account suspended. Very Happy the discussions here are more interesting than the rest. unlike other post to host forums i've been in -- some are pretty bare, and most are spam messages.

This is the only forum I frequent although I am a member of a couple of UK based survey sites which pay for the survays you complete.

One pays in Luncheon vouvhers (4 for one survey) which can be redeemed at lots of high street food outlets- http://www.luncheonvouchers.co.uk/Employee0/WhereToUse/WhereToUse.asp

I have received over 20 sets of 4 luncheon vouchers in about 2 years, doesn't sound a lot but they come in handy for treating the kids to a happy meal or something like that when a book of vouchers arrives.

The second site pays you in cash and entries into prize money draws. Usually 50p per survay. In two years I have just received my first chequre for 50 cash which I am going to use for my domain name and hosting for my candy club once it is ready to be pubished. So that came in handy.

The surveys are fun to complete, don't take long and the rewards come in very handy.

The first survey site is by invitation only but the second welcomes new members so let me know if you are interested and I will put you in touch - I get a teeny bonus if others join. But only if you are in the UK, sorry.

The company is used by lots of companies including the BBC and the government for running surveys.

Its fun, it actualy pays you and it is run by trusted companies and not scam artists just looking for email addresses (I never get spam from them).

So aprt from these there are no other sites which I am actuallya member of like this.

I use to be a memeber of the flashkit community as well as the Zope/Plone community and emotiondv a FCP forum . I would go to a lot of forums but I think real life catches up and different priorities are made as well jobs change. I'm not as active in the web/multimedia community as I was when I first started 7 years ago.

I am a moderator of one of the Arts & Literature forum of Peyups, the online community of the university I went to. It's a much smaller site compared to frihost, so I would assume it's definitely a lot easier to moderate.

I would also like to be active in the boards of American Idol, but they just don't take care of the site so I find it difficult to participate. Even with the number of multiple/duplicate threads in frihost, this forum is still better moderated than AI's. Of course, frihost can do better. Smile
