Scooters/mopeds getting more popular?

rhathar
It seems to me that scooters are becoming more popular. I see them more and more around towns, and the same shops that used to sell just motorcycles and ATVs now carry scooters as well!

What do you think? Have you seen an increase of scooter use in your area? Do YOU ride a scooter? I'd love to hear about your experiences, if so.

I haven't really seen an uptick in scooters or mopeds in Boston... Maybe that's just beacuse our weather is so lousy for riding most of the time, but I suspect that the fact that MA requires you have a full driver's license to ride the things also has something to do with it... Under 50cc used to be considered bicycles and allowed for everyone, but then "minibikes" aimed at 11 year olds came on the market and ruined it for responsible teens and others in need of mobility without a license...

One day every home is going to need a moped, just to pop to the shops, due to pollution.

Well, mopeds are a good way to start driving in the streets i think. I am 15 now and i have a moped. I want to drive car, but i just can΄t yet. Mopeds have smaller speed and thats why the police likes them more than cars. In the real world mopeds are not so safe than cars because we can we cant to drive fast enough. Mopeds are too expensive in Finland too. New moped can cost 3500 €, but 125cc is same price! And a good car is 1000€. ( about 10 years old )
