For the men, from the women.

BlockUp
This is a poem written by Andrew Marvell.
It may seem very deep and conplicated, but really he was just trying to ask his girlfriend for sex without being too vulgar. Smile

Here it is:
Quote:
To his Coy Mistress

by Andrew Marvell

Had we but world enough, and time,
This coyness, lady, were no crime.
We would sit down and think which way
To walk, and pass our long love's day;
Thou by the Indian Ganges' side
Shouldst rubies find; I by the tide
Of Humber would complain. I would
Love you ten years before the Flood;
And you should, if you please, refuse
Till the conversion of the Jews.
My vegetable love should grow
Vaster than empires, and more slow.
An hundred years should go to praise
Thine eyes, and on thy forehead gaze;
Two hundred to adore each breast,
But thirty thousand to the rest;
An age at least to every part,
And the last age should show your heart.
For, lady, you deserve this state,
Nor would I love at lower rate.

But at my back I always hear
Time's winged chariot hurrying near;
And yonder all before us lie
Deserts of vast eternity.
Thy beauty shall no more be found,
Nor, in thy marble vault, shall sound
My echoing song; then worms shall try
That long preserv'd virginity,
And your quaint honour turn to dust,
And into ashes all my lust.
The grave's a fine and private place,
But none I think do there embrace.

Now therefore, while the youthful hue
Sits on thy skin like morning dew,
And while thy willing soul transpires
At every pore with instant fires,
Now let us sport us while we may;
And now, like am'rous birds of prey,
Rather at once our time devour,
Than languish in his slow-chapp'd power.
Let us roll all our strength, and all
Our sweetness, up into one ball;
And tear our pleasures with rough strife
Thorough the iron gates of life.
Thus, though we cannot make our sun
Stand still, yet we will make him run.

Women, would you repond positively if your boyfriend read this to you?
And men, do you think it would work?

Just trying to see if poetry from 15-1600s is still (even just partly) relavant today. Laughing

It really depends on the person. I guess some people will give a "blank" kind of look. Others will just wonder why is this guy saying a poem?? Maybe he has done something wrong?? HAHA. I guess i don't really think i would do poems anymore. I think it is understood if there are going to be or there will not be. If she doesn't want to give, then she really doesn't want to. LOL. I will respect that decision. Maybe that weekend i will go elsewhere to satisfy the natural needs of man. LOL.

Haha...

I remember reading that poem when I was a 17 year old literature student to some girls. Some girls just gave me a blank look, most were put off, especially when I got to the part about "thirty thousand to the rest". But there was one girl who had a gleam in her eyes and parted her lips...

Anyway, I think that poem needs an update if you want to use it today. Too archaic in this day and age. You don't want to end up looking like a jerk.

In this age of high-tech? I doubt so. Unless the person you are reading to is a lit. major.

Then again, where I come from, people speak a different language anyway.. haa haa

Trying to ask your girlfriend for sex with the use of a poem is greatly good idea. But your girlfriend might not get your point. So it is better to say it straight to the point. Smile

I can't imagine any woman responding all that well to you reading something written by another person. Now if you had written it for her, I imagine you would be in her bed that night....that is if in today's world she had enough understanding of the English language to comprehend it. I'm sure a poem would be nice, but I didn't have to ask. She made the first move on me and it was smooth sailing from there on out. I guess I'm trying to say that if you're into the relationship, and that's what your going for, sex and/or making love (yes there is a difference) will come naturally and you won't have to resort to reciting archaic literature.

Yes, this is something that would definately try out. It's a different and unorthodox way to ask to take the relationship a little further. Cool
