SPORTS SUCK

I have to say that SPORTS SUCK!

My reasoning for this is because the only way you make it in the sports world is to be rich! its just another way that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer... When i was in High School the only way you got on the team and played is if you pitched in money for the team... if you didn't you sat on the bench. then if your in a poor school they college recruters dont really look into the school very much...

That's why i think sports SUCK!

and its just an oppinion so dont over-react...
fx-trading-education
Probably you are from US where you need money to go to the best places, but in other countries it's not like that.
For instance many Brasilian football players come from poor areas. I am from France and also here, some of the best basket players that are now in NBA come from rather poor areas.
And even for Universities I would say that in France it's the opposite: most of the best schools are free and not so good schools are private and you have to pay. I think it's fair if your are good you don't need money to go to the best places and if you are bad you have to pay to get a diploma. And anyway everybody knows that you got a diploma because you bought it.

Well, starting a thread called "sports suck" certainly isn't overreacting now is it.... Shocked

What you say simply is not true. In order to succeed in sports, you have to be the best and work hard. All of these so-called spoiled professional atheletes who have more money than God worked very hard to get what they have (a lot harder than you think).

My opinioin is that most people who say that sports suck, and that organized sports are corrupt are people who just plain suck themselves and are blaming their failures on someone besides themself.
gh0stface
Not everyone plays sports just to try and earn money. A lot of people participate in sport activities as it's a healthy way of keeping you in a better lifestyle. There are numerous benefits for playing sports. Keeping in shape is just one.
Dragonfly
I don't agree fully with your perception. There are poor boys who make it big later in life as they grow mature. Today many successful athletes are from Africa continent where poverty is the deepest, that doesn't stop them from beginning the best in Sports they perform. I think hard work pays off in most cases, except for Golf where you also must be able to play in good conditions and be able to afford the stuffs that it associates with....
Coclus
That's totally exaggerated, as you can say you hate humens because some kill each other!! You just hate what you associate with sports, but I'm sure you know there are different ways to perform sports...
kurogane
XD, nah, the sport does not stink out but esque really to not interested to you to make or to practice one, because perhaps he is not of your interest none if it is thus you could create your own sport since it is like eating vegetables and fruits to be healthful;)
skynet
As all said here.. you said rubbish dude.

It doesn't metter if you have money or not, it's metter how you use your brain and Skills.

If you really want to succes in each sport that you like, you need to practice a lot and to do all you can to succes in this sport.

It's like everything in the world.. not only in the sports.
gerontius
well.. i guess that the thread starter is frustrated because jocks get all the chicks, so he has to vent his frustration on this forum Shocked
just kidding Cool Laughing

but the thing is... i know many guys who say that athletes are idiots, and i can see that the only reason for that is the fact that chicks, when faced with a decision: "should i date the cute muscular guy from the basketball team, or chubby guy that plays world of warcraft all the time" normally choose the sports guy

hey... jealousy is a bad thing Very Happy
TribalArt
I think thats a biased view.

Many of the above seem well mannered and I would like to say that you either have the ability to do well in sport, for some the exceptional ability they possess such as these big superstars.

If you didnt make it into the school team, did you ever try elsewhere?

Sounds like you should say the world sucks more so than sports suck. I can go out and play next to any sport (football, soccer, basketball, tennis, baseball, etc.) with minimal cost. So you might want to blame the system more so than the sports.
Illionaire
What about all the pro athletes that come from poor communities? There are dozens of basketball players who grew up in a poor family. There are also a lot of good baseball players who come from developing countries.
lyndonray
When I saw the title to this thread a thought popped in to my small brain: Hmm, this is probably some chick who is angry that her boyfriend has more interest in ESPN SportCenter that he does in her!!. But then to go on and read the reasoning behind it and see what it actually is, left me rather.... i don't know!

So sports suck because they make the rich richer and the poor poorer? What is this? The 21st century communist manifesto? Very Happy Seriously! Let me give you an example of why sports don't suck:

In 1995 South Africa was on very shaky ground. Democratic elections had taken place the previous year but blacks and whites still weren't big fans of each other. OK they weren't going around killing each other, but there definitely wasn't a sense of national unity. Not until the rugby world cup came around. The whole country rallied around the home team. In so doing it created a sense of national unity no political speech could ever achieve! That event brought the country together at a time when people were convinced that war could still break out! The world cup showed everyone that there are many things they have in common. So why not concentrate on those rather the their differences and move and build a better nation. Which is what's happening there.

So please tell me again that SPORTS SUCK!
roninmedia
Sports break down the distinction between rich and poor more than you think.

Money does not give you success in sports. Rather success in sports gives you money. If the former were true, we would never have seen many soccer players and american football and baseball and basketball players. I know that some sports like golf and tennis require money to get you started but if you have no athletic talent, money will not get you to the professional levels.
bigdan
I'm going to have to disagree with the thread's title.

Most of the people here have made points I'd agree with, so I'll go with that.
slchap5
sports do not suck. and most of the world agrees with me on this one. the ones who say sports sucks are the ones who never win and then give up on sports. thats the way see it.
mattchun
If you continue watching sports game, sports will never get suck.
rfarrand
I don't know if that is necessarily all and completely true. Granted it is much easier for the rich to get in before the rest of us. But life was never said to be easy, and it just takes that much more work and dedication from us, who are less fortunate, to rise above the rest. It does not go unnoticed when you may not be the best, talent wise out there, but you have the heart and the devotion to standing out and doing your best through thick and thin. You can achieve anything, if you really want to...there is nothing that can hold you back but yourself. if you want to play sports, play sports...there is always ways to find the funding... but if you are not into sports, that is fine as well...there are many other things out there that we can all be doing. maybe you will be able to help someone else get into sports someday. how cool would that be of you to do?

I didn't read most of this thread, but I had to respond so if I repeat something said by another member then that is why I posted it.

Sports suck if you suck. If you have no real skills or talents then you will need something extra(Money). There's more people in sports that didn't live great lives that are now rich because of their talents. Just because a few make it because of rich parents or reputation inheiritence. They usually don't last that long. Teams need wins and if the person suck then there's no way that person will stay on the team. Maybe if you're talking about when rich kids get on school teams because of money, then you're correct on that part, but if you're talking about college or pro sports then you are wrong.

Did anyone address this part of his post?

Is that true in most schools these days? I know that where I am, a lot of the school teams require the players to pay. Seems sort of unfair and biased against the poorer students. How common is that?

BTW, no one who thinks sports suck is gonna be reading this forum, so I'm not surprised that nobody here agrees. Except for me of course! I think spectator sports pretty much suck, but that is just me. I can't understand sitting on your butt watching a bunch of over paid clowns run around. Get out and do something yourself instead getting your exercise vicariously.

Agreed. i think some sports are revolved around money, but most are just skill/fitness. Car racing for example requires alot of money to win.

Most public high schools in the United States only require a fee for a physical to join a sports team to check if you are in adequate health to participate on the team. I have never ever had to pay a fee outside that to join a team. The only teams that require money are youth leagues that are independent of the public funds.

Btw, I think is contradictory to say you hate spectator sports. Would you really want to play a game or sport in front of an empty audience if say you were an amateur athlete playing for no compensation?

Thanks for the info on current school athletics...it's been awhile since I was in school.

I don't think I'm being contradictory, but maybe I am. What I was trying to say is that I don't like watching sports. I do like playing some, but I really don't care about spectators. I play for the competition and exercise.

In fact, I am so outstanding in all the sports I try, that I am pretty sure nobody has wanted to watch me for longer than they had to! Laughing

Sure I would. If I enjoy playing the game/sport, I couldn't care less if people watch or not. If you're playing for the purpose of people watching, than you're playing for the wrong reason.
Klaw 2
sportsmen/women work very hard to get to the top so they deserve it
you can also look at it in a different view JOBS SUCK, why? because everyone tries to get rich, Sad so if you look at EVEYTHING in that way we all be better of destrying every peace of technollogy and go back to the stone age, or turn everything to some communist state. In both occasions i think thats not such a great idea

besides sport is fun you get some exircise and you need to sport or you get a bit fat thats not healthy.
Arnie
Still, sports are overvalued in modern society. They may not be bad but when you look at how much money the professional players get, you cannot deny that they're overvalued.
mattchun
Sports suck or you suck?

Maybe you just do not understand what sports mean to everyone who love it!
MetalFreak
Sports are not bad, maybe you don't like them because you can not play them, and football is awesome, basketball is sweet and baseball is pretty good. Although, I want to see a real game of rugby, I've never seen one. It seems brutal. Cool
MetalFreak
Sports is about having fun and to get paid to do something you love then go ahead that is the dream job. BUT athletes do get overpaid, i mean some get paid like 500 thousand dollars a year. Thats not realistic, i mean some of us work decent but demanding jobs and get paid less than a quarter of that money.
Klaw 2
okay maybe some sportsmen are a bit overpaid and 500.000 is much but some pro football players get a million or so but they also get that money with commercials etc.
manutdfc13
in my opinion sports dont suck but i do think that the players and athletes are paid way too much

$500, 000? From Forbes (mar. 06)
Quote:
• Andre Agassi 35 $26.2 million
• Lance Armstrong 34 $28 million
• David Beckham 30 $32.5 million
• Kobe Bryant 27 $28.8 million
• Lindsay Davenport 29 $6 million
• Oscar De La Hoya 33 $38 million
• Jeff Gordon 34 $23.4 million
• Matt Hasselbeck 30 $22.8 million
• LeBron James 21 $22.9 million
• Derek Jeter 31 $25.5 million
• Walter Jones 32 $23.2 million
• Michael Jordan 43 $33 million

That is total, including endorsements, I think.

You are wrong, for instance look at Lance Armstrong - he started off being one of the poorest kids in Texas!
cghq
really depends what level of sport you are talking about. Sports is more about enjoyment at the lower levels.. Its focus only really starts to change at the proffesional levels.. Where the emphasis is still about winning, it is just hat to win nowadays you really do need to have a lot of funding, hence the focus on making money
