I don't think it was unwarranted. But, saying that, it was out of line. Regardless of how low someone stoops, you can't do that.
It would be like having someone saying something rude about my personal life to me at work and I head butt them in the face.
I think these sports players feel they are on a different set of rules than the rest of society when they step on a field/ice.
In hindsight im sure even zindane knows that he not only let himself down,but his team mates and his country,but in the moment,with the pressure of a nation on his shoulders,he snapped. A shame really as it was a sad end to a career of the best footbaler of his generation.
It was absolutely stupid. No matter what anyone says to you, you can't react in that way. And in the end it probably cost France the worldcup.

good, everything what it happened there was that the other player insulted then zidane was not contained and when seeing that no longer could win to him to Italy it decided to send a headbutt to the player which stained its right image before retiring of soccer.

yes it was a stupid way to react but given the circumstances, I would have done the same thing. Some times you get caught up in the game and you can't think strait. It's a crazy feeling. As a recipiant of a few red cards myself i have experienced this myself. When you want something enough you do anything to win. Even if it doesn't even make sence at the time. It's just one big rush and afterward you feel like a dumb ass. As you sould for doing something that silly.
he was a kind of rude person in that behavior.
