User-friendly Website Builder?

NewGuyinTown
I am wondering if there is any user-friendly (for a computer novice) tools or softwares that do HTML and webdesign.

I know how to do webdesign and implement databases onto it, but, sadly, the person hired me to do their webpage does not understand and maintain it.

Thank you for your time.

You mean something like Frontpage? Most web-developers will say it's a horrible thing (and I agree) but it seems that a lot of newbie's can make a 'reasonable' site with it.
NewGuyinTown
Yes something like Frontpage (I knew this would be brought up Confused )... but are there any better alternatives that I should consider? Opinions are welcomed.

I would suggest Dreamweaver. (adobe.com)
It's the most popular webdesigntool, I think.

Another one to consider is Homsite (Adobe)

Not as simple as Frontpage but with a lot of features.

I think what they are looking for is something that is inexpensive and has a drag and drop type of interface so that their is not a learning curve involved with the software.

They way that the post sounds the person that the site is designed for is not interested in learning how to design sites and needs something that is very easy to use.

Easy to use and cheap?
Try NVU

I don't know if it is that easy to use, but it's WYSIWYG and very similar to frontpage I think.

Here is some software that is free and works like a desktop publishing software. I haven't tried it but looking through the site it looks easy enough to use and it has some tutorials for use.

You could add an online editor for the site as well and this may be an option that works for your customer.

Here is a link for some software that does that:

http://www.coffeecup.com/

They have sseveral solutions available for website design and editors.

If you do a more intense google search I am sure that you can find more.

Good luck.

I recommend NVU (free), or one of firefox's in-browser web designers (there are a few)

I am trying to get a web based website creation system. I am a teacher with 10+ year old Macs & 5+ year old PCs.

Is there any freeware/shareware or web based stuff I can use for 7th & 8th graders? No budget & I am trying to teach this stuff. Help ... This sucks big time. Sad

Does the coffee cup stuff work cross platform? They have a great ed policy..

I forgot to say that I tried the "http://jabapyth.frih.net/others.php?page=Image%20Form" link & it did not work for me.

I use http://cooltext.com. They have fonts, buttons & fancy text headings. Great place.

Use NVU it is easy on the budget {free} and cross platform. If you really want to teach your students the best way is through html and css. Start them off with a text editor and W3C.org. It is free and they will learn the correct code so if there is a problem in the wyswyg editor they know how to fix it. My 2 pesos Very Happy

Thanks Very Happy

I have grades due now but I will look @ them ASAP & have the kids try it.

By the way. I am always looking for good tutorials for best practices geared for kids. If you see any I would love to hear about them. The problem w/most sites is they are very dry. 11-13 year olds have no attention span and, at times don't even read all of the 1st sentence on a page. Asking them to read a 10 page web site is like asking them to read a 200 page novel in a day.... Just kidding but you know what I mean Wink
