Wireless Mics

What type of wireless mics do you guys use for your recordings?

I'm using a Sennheiser G2 ew100. It's all right, but sometimes I get too much distortion. Have to turn down the mic levels.

well i use a bluetooth USB adapter and connect it to my Samsung Wep150 Bluetooth headset. I can use it as mic or speaker. The quality is not good for mic or speaker. I prefer my USB mic it is 16bit. It does the job.

It works great for the times you need a wireless mic when doing video work. It has a pretty good range too...I've been more than 300 feet from the person with the microphone on as I wanted a wide angle shot of the mountains behind them and it still worked great. It is a dual diversity type....you see it has two antennas? Well the receiver is constantly monitoring which has a stronger signal and picking that one.

Tiel, you've got quite a good mic set. You need to start looking at Lectrosonics etc. for better; we're talking over $1,000 a set.

You may know all this but...

Unless you are getting 'hits' from some other wireless system in the area, like an ambulance radio, in which case you just change the frequency, the distortion sounds like a input gain issue, you're overloading either the mic or the recording device.

On most wireless transmitter units, there should be an input gain/attenuation adjustment screw/knob. And the unit should have an led that will show you if you are overloading at that stage. If you are not overloading at the transmitter or receiver, then check the recording device. Sometimes, it can be an impedance mismatch, i.e. line level out of the receiver going into a mic level in the recording device.

If the levels occasionally soar, causing distortion, you may have to lower input levels and use gain/compression tools in post.

ViDE,

Yeah, I realised that it was a weak battery that was causing the distortion.

But, yeah, I like the wireless mic I'm using.
