AMARILLO, Texas - An Amarillo woman who mailed 78 pounds of marijuana to herself was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in federal prison Monday.
Tiffany Joy Kelly, 28, pleaded guilty in October to one count of illegal use of a communication facility, the U.S. Attorney's Office in Dallas said in a news release. She has been in custody since her arrest in July, after a postal inspector in El Paso became suspicious of two Express Mail parcels.
A search warrant allowed officials to open the packages, which were then resealed and sent to Kelly at a motel in Amarillo.
Kelly was arrested after accepting the packages. Prosecutors said she admitted buying the marijuana and mailing it to herself so she could distribute it. |

There are some really stupid people out there who do really stupid things, and this is just a prime example of some of the stupid things. Why the in the world would you mail yourself marijuana? That's almost like going up to a police officer, punching him in the face and saying can you arest me now please? I hope that she learned a lesson but chances are that she is that dumb that she will probably end up doing it again.Hmmmmm, hard to figure out whether the biggest fope was inside or outside the package!!!
Maybe before Sept. 11 she would have gotten away with it, but isn't that a bit dumb to mail yourself drugs thinking it would go by without any problems?
I heard about this! I live in El Paso and it was on the news here. Yeah, definitely a stupid thing to do.
I mean really! What is the world coming to? What happened to those good ol' days when you walked down the street to your friendly neighbourhood drug dealer and ask her for an 8th! Nowadays people fedex themselves their own weed! it reminds me of that episode of Mr Bean when he was sending himself Christmas cards!
It would have been less stupid if she would have made sure nobody could prove that she sent it herself....because you can't be punished if some other guy decides to mail you anything!
ive had friends who tried doing this when they went to amsterdam.....but the post office there has pretty much nailed that kinda thing and so the marijuana usually just doesnt arrive.

Well yeah that is true. But I guess the post office would have asked for some identiication when she was trying to post it. WOuld have been hard to find an accomplice for such an act.That is as bad as the lady I saw on COPS one night. She call the cops because somebody sold her fake crack and she wanted her money back. LOL
