How do I prevent finger injury?

I have to write a lot during my exams. The writing causes the finger that is against the pen to become very sore.

Do you have tips of how to prevent this? Would a softer pen help?

If you write often enough, you finger will become accustomed to writing and the pain will diminish or go away altogether. There are "cushions" that fit over pencils to make writing more comfortable. Many pens have a built-in cushion or soft grip to help with this as well.
