What's the best cms for building Personal Site?
I have used phpnuke, mambo, drupal, xoops, etc. But still not satisfied.
Thanks a lot.
i think all the cms you mentioned are a little of an overkill for a personal site. I would choose word press, even if you don't want to run a blog. It is very friendly and easy. You can configure it easily to fit a personal site. You won't even have have to write code probably, as there are many plugins.

Maybe building your own CMS is a good idea if you have enough knowledge in PHP and MySQL.
You will be more satisfied if you create your own CMS because it will be very customizable.
Also you will really understand how it works because you code it.

If you build only your personal page - only wordpress
You should use Wordpress or if it's a single page, just create it yourself!
Maybe, it's feature overkill. But IMHO PHP-Fusion is very easy to use, quite interesting and has many interesting features.
So why don't try this?

My vote also goes to Wordpress .
So simple and yet elegant in its style , this rocks the country with its poetry code .
Choose wordpress and sit back to enjoy the elegance and its extendability .
yep i would also vote for wordpress for the easy users. the environment in it also seems to be very friendly and the good part of all that it is very easy to use. it is easy to install too... so go for wordpress, and there are many themes to go with it... it has every thing that a blogger or web publisher wants.
WordPress is very good, and everyone recommends it these days but an alternative blogger-type script that I much prefer over WP is Pivot:
http://www.pivotlog.net/
Very simple to set up as it doesn't use a MySQL database, just text flatfile database (I believe that would be the correct term).
I use it to showcase my woodcrafts, site still in progress:

Quite nice CMS, without Mysql database. it good for beginners. i liked its simplicity.
Seems like WordPress is very popular. I think, however, that textpattern is a better cms for building a Personal Site. Try it !
Elegance and the ease of use , are the only words concerned with Wordpress , and thats why a lot of people , actually , use Wordpress for their purposes .
SO , for your Personal Homepage , i would heartly recommend Wordpress , unabridged .

Maybe a silly question, but what would be your definition of a "personal site"?
Do you want to blog only? Do you want to show pictures of your wife and kids? Do you want to do online gaming?
I would say that each of these categories require a different site layout and content, and subsequently a diffenent backend machinery.
Also, how frequent will you be updating?
If you only have a newsitem once a month, you could do that easily in a simply system. But when your site needs updating several times a day, you'd better invest in a good system that will facilitate this frequency. Otherwise you'll have blisters on your fingers in no time!
Rather than start a new topic, what about a small community site? I have used PHP-nuke before, but I'm looking into Joomla, e107, and Drupal. I will need integrated forums and something easy to use and install. I know very (very very) little of coding myself.
Thanks!
-edit-
Apologies - I never browse this forum so I didn't see the sticky with the poll - thanks anyways....
As a chinese I often use these
discuz.net supersite and discuz
phpwind.net
bo-blog.com
Since my previous post to this thread, I've been playing around with CuteNews, whose output you can insert into any webpage with just an include directive. So you design your site the way you want, and usea single installation of CN for wide variety of pages on your server since you can seperate your outputs by categories and specify those categories in the include directive in each page.
I probably make it sound more complicated than it really is. Just give it a try, it's easy to install.

Wordpress without any doubt, you have a very grown community and a lot of plugins to do the work for you.
It's very easy to use and with the power of mysql. The best option in combination with the frihost webhosting!
Depending on the amount of content etc, I don't think a CMS system is required for a personal site. Personally I enjoy developing sites, so enjoy delving into code and making it all look nice.
As long as your CSS skills are good, you've used includes or a javascript file for menus etc, there's no need for a CMS.
I just saw word press, and Gosh I liked it, I did not know it even existed, Is there a list wher you could find which are the best cms around ??
