I tried reading the thread, but it got so bogged down in omnipotence and paradoxes and philosophy that I didn't see a single response which answered your question.
I would extend the question to include past religions, whose believers also believed their gods were real. Is it not possible that religious faith is a human trait, but that the gods we believe in do not exist at all?
