Search Engine

I am interested in building a search engine for my site, but have no-idea on how to build it.

As my site is all about user-content, all of my data is stored into a mySQL database. I don't really want some crappy mySQL query like phpBB system.

Would the best thing to do is some sort of CronJob that index's the site, or can someone suggest some free software thats out there.

Sorry if thats all over the place, I can explain it more if you need me to

Thanks in Advance,
Garion

Could use one of googles search features? I believe they also have a thing on code.google.com that is a stand alone little web search API so you could use that...
