Firefox Search Plugin

As much as Bondings hates other plugins made by other people, I would like to suggest another one: Firefox Search Plugin.

I just did a quick Goole search and found this: http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=133847&view=previous.

It will allow for people with Firefox or Internet Explorer 7 to search Frihost without having to click the search button.

I haven't tried it myself yet, because I don't have phpBB Wink

That would be so handy! You just type what you are looking for and it finds it! It would encourage people to search before they post, reduce spam. I think that that is a very good idea!

This would be better.

Yeah, Bondings would prefer that, it doesn't mod the forum. It is like an external forum search engine. Pure, unrelated coding.

EDIT:
Actually, I just had a closer look at OpenSearch. It would be impossible to do it with the current search system. OpenSearch needs the search term to be in the URL for the results page. The URL for FriHost's search results is http://frihost.com/forums/search.php?mode=results.

So that would not work. You would need to use a mod to change it to something more like: http://www.frihost.com/forums/search.php?search=searchterm

Thats only with IE7:

Quote:

Describes the URL or URLs to use for the search. The method attribute indicates whether to use a GET or POST request to fetch the result. The template attribute indicates the base URL for the search query.

Note: Internet Explorer 7 does not support POST requests.

^ I assume that's why the phpBB mod only works with FireFox.

Looks like Microsoft messed up... Again. Laughing

Woooo, thats cool hey this aint a bad idea. Maybe then we wouldnt have to have a search time limit. If the site is indexed every so often that would be cool it would also make it even better to spread frihost around.

It really has nothing to do with indexing though...
