What is CHOWN

pashmina
I tried to install a component in a joomla and it gave this error

Code:
Upload component - Upload Error
Failed to move uploaded file to /media directory.
[ Continue ... ]

and some one suggested me to change the chown, now what is chown

he said

Quote:
contact your host and tell them to change the Ownership (CHOWN is the formal name) of the files and folders to "user"

seems that the current owner is Apache and you are not allowed to change anything o a CHOWN is needed
cheers

On a UNIX or Linux System chown is a command to change the owner of a directory or file. It lets the specified user or group work with the specified files.

The server administrator must run this command.

Although you may be able to fix the problem with a chmod and just change all the files to 777 which means everyone may read, write, and execute.

There's a fix you can do yourself to change ownership to yourself so you can run and delete the files.
