Guitar Technique - Picking Development

Cedar Speeder
Looking for some technique exercises for advanced picking development. There's a great deal of very good fretting hand technique available through classical sources, but not so much for picks.

If anyone has used any instructional books or dvds in this area, a recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

Try to play finger picking songs with your pick. Start out very slowly. If there are chords, try using different arpeggios of the same key. Also, try to work on hitting only one or two strings at a time, while strumming. Other than that, you're on your own.

Well, of course, up down, up, down, up, down all the time.

Go E ( LOW ), D, A, G, E ( HIGH ), B

Then just try some playing techniques along with picking.

Use mixing softwwares!
BladeRunner
Rule 1: Use your THUMB to pluck the 3 bass strings (E, A, and D) and your next 3 fingers for the bottom 3 strings starting with your index finger on the G sting (no laughing!)

Rule 2: Once you have got the technique with rule 1, forget rule 1 and do what feels right

Start by fingering the chord of G...

3 ----------Bass E String
2 ----------
0 ----------
0 ----------
3 ----------
3 ----------Treble E String

Now pluck the bass E string with your thumb then the bottom 3 strings one after another. Do it slowly and aim to keep the timing even.
Then pick the 5th string (the A string) with your thumb and do the same with your fingers.

This is a very simple pick pattern and should at least start you off on the road to picking like Paul Simon can Smile

EDIT...by the way...if you haven't heard of it, Guitar Pro 5 is an awesome piece of software. It not only displays tab, but plays it too...AND lets you use it for composition.
