It used to, until I got MailScanner installed on the email server I use. Now all spam is blocked on the server (80% of emails coming to the server are spam!)

Spam is a pain in the rear end, especially when it is the same people spamming you time and time and time again.

I make a point never to acknowledge Spam if at all possible.

One thing I detest is the scam emails that appear to be from Ebay or PayPal, you can report them but nothing ever seems to happen. I mean people seem so blasé about them. If someone in the ‘real’ world tried to steal money or your identity you would wet the bed over it but because it is just in an email many people let it slide and just ignore it.

And of course there are those scams from Nigeria et al, which really tick me off.

I remember when that big hurricane (or was it a typhoon I can never remember which is which) hit Florida. I hardly got any Spam at all and I saw on the news the two things are somehow connected. Juts a pity so many people had to suffer while I enjoyed a Spam-free time.

I am not keen on Spam filters because they either don’t work, filter out important emails or interfere with other software on my PC.

Hope this is enough info (probably too much), if you need anything else just let me know.

I really doesn't make me all that made. I have gmail and the spam filter catches all the spam so every now and then i will just simply empty the spam bin and its done in like less then 5 seconds.

I've almost given up. I am about to believe that stupid conspiracy theory involving free email providers and protection money from spam corporations. Almost. Just almost..

I recently had to abandon my first ever "real" email account with Tiscali - it doesn't come with a spam filter and I was getting spam at a rate of between 20 and 80 emails per day. It just shows that in today's climate, an email account without any form of spam protection is not a viable option at all.

Tiscali did offer spam filtering, but you had to pay for it. I decided that on principle, I refused to pay for it. The webmail service was actually really bad - based of javascript I think, and it was extremely slow to respond. It's also the only type of "free" email account that I'm aware of that doesn't have some form of spam protection.

Personally, I've never really had much of a problem with Spam myself. I usually end up cycling out my old email address with a new one every year. Also, I've also noticed, for example, that I used a completely random name, like Straevaras, and used it for my email name, and I have not gotten ANY RANDOM spam. Now I used my first and last name for an email (first.last@domain.com) and I noticed that I was getting loads of spam in that inbox, but I don't primarily use that email anyway, so it's not a problem for me. I get the email forwarded from that email to my other with Straevaras in the name, and thankfully, the spam isn't forwarded either.

I don't like the scamming spam or the spam that constantly resends itself to your inbox over and over again. Some are ok, but...all-in-all...I really don't like it.

Yeah, I have been receiving spams on my email. Plenty of them. I don't really know why my yahoo email accounts are always spammed. I don't know how I got those unsolicited emails. Some are pornographic in contents. I don't remember subscribing to such sites using my emails. Even my official email address got spam mails.

I enjoy watching the evolution of spam over the years, it used to just be:
CHEAP VIAGRA!!
then when spam filters arose:
waannnnnntttt toooo ggiiiiiitttt aaaaa hhhhhuuuuugeee pp333nnnniissss????
Now they just want to ruin your spam filter so you turn it off:
Justice monkey requisition friday the constitution playstation aneurysm

Maybe i like watching it from afar simply because gmail has never let a piece of spam into my inbox.

my yahoo spam guard is turned on but yet it wasn't able to neutralize those spams coming to my emails. i had reached the 500 IPs allocation for blocked domains on my spam filter. i am just using the free yahoo account.

I've never been particularly frustrated by spam. Although I now tend to get something like a dozen spam messages a day (I really need a new e-mail address) it doesn't take more than a few seconds to scan them for any 'real' e-mails and just mass delete them. So no, not really.

(Although as a side note, I once used a spam filter that, ironically, sent you an individual message each time it blocked spam, you I ended up with just as much spam as before, but all from my e-mail provider instead. Laughing Now that was kind of frustrating. )

My email account which is a company account that I've had since 1997 currently recieves about 70 spam per day. That is DOWN from last months average of about 250 per day. Throughout most of 2004 it was getting about 150 a day, which I spent hours pushing through to www.spamcop.net - and that helped a hell of a lot to reduce the spam down to 40 a day by the start of 2005. From there, it gradually increased back up again to its current level.

I also have another company account which recieves about 70 per day (I've only had this particular account for less than a year and I don't use it for anything) and a yahoo account which gets about 10 per day. I rarely check my hotmail account but I'm guessing it gets about 10 per day.

I am frequently getting emails (and I mean about 20 a day) asking if I would like my penis enlarged. They are always from different senders so it's hard to have them filtered. I get about 30 other spam a day but they are all filtered to a spam file and deleted.

There have been so many times when I've accidentally deleted important messages while trying to get rid of the overwhelming amount of junk mail I used to get everyday (for some reason it seems to have mysteriously stopped recently). I'm so sick of having to change my email address in an attempt to keep drug stores from advertising to me. The human population already gets bombarded with billboards, television advertisements, and banners on web pages, why do I need to see advertisements in my inbox as well?

My main email account is Gmail and the spam filter is great. I have one email account where all of the spam is stored (about 2000 emails). It was annoying before when I didn't have a spam filter, but it's fine right now.

GMail's spam filter is godly... I have only had about 4 spam emails get through it and they were easy to get rid of. (I get around 40 emails a day, and around 40 for the amount of spam, too.)

The problem is that the From address is often faked, or is some innocent person's email address. If you get spam, chances are other people get spam with your address in the From field.

No, Spam hasn't been a problem from me everysince I stopped using free email services to opt for an in-house one. Now I have total control of who to block who I want without restriction like hotmail has.

Plus it's gotten funner now that I can threaten lawsuits AOL style to the spammer. I was at one point going to have my attorney send a cease and desist letter to one of them enlargement spammer, but I don't think it would be very tasteful to go to court and I doubt my attorney would have accepted the case.

My primary e-mail provider is Gmail.. while I have perhaps ten spam e-mails in my inbox at the end of the day, I don't mind at all, especially considering that in the same amount of time Gmail automatically filters out the other ~1500.

I'm not kidding, either. I have 9800 messages currently in my spam box. They're deleted after they're 7 days old.

I use hotmail and have the filter set to maximum. sometimes i have to retrieve mail from the junk box but i rarely have anything thing to mark as spam. And if theres a particularly annoying one that gets past my filter, then ill just add it to my blocklist. everything from that organisation doesnt even make it to my junk box let alone my inbox

i hate spam but i solved it by doing this.
i set up a dummy email like ihatespam@hotmail.com
and when i sign up for stuff i send junk to that adress so i still get what i want of the site without the spam, and you dont even have to go check the dummy, just when inactive and they delete it all the mail gets bounced back to the companys server, and companys hate this, LOL

what i do is turn it to full protection, and then set up a word filter. anything with any of the words:

welcome
registration
confirm
account
confirmation

gets sent directly to a folder called 'Registrations' Smile
occasionally, something will end up in my inbox, but the stuff that isnt spam, ends right where its meant to be and the true spam ends in my junk mail folder Smile

Spam filters have gotten extremely effective (Postini, SpamAsassin are what I use) but still, a lot get through and that's what annoys me. And I still have to look at them about once a week and delete them except in my gmail accounts.
I have about a dozen email accounts of various types, one from my ISP, 2 gmail, and the rest are from domains I admin so I do spend a lot of time dealing with the shit.

answer: Yes spam is a problem

On my personal mail I can block spam quite good with my antivirus, but on the mail I have through my school I can´t. And that mail inbox is only 5Mb big, so if I get 10 spam mails each day the inbox is full before long.
Even if the size of the inbox isnt a problem spam can be really annoying though.

Spam sucks ass. Gmail has the best spam filter I've found...but every now and then something still slips through. The worst is that I have NEVER used my gmail address to sign up for anything. I have an old yahoo account that gets plenty of spam that I use to sign up for EVERYTHING. But unfortunately spam still gets sent to my gmail (though I've never used it for registration or posted it anywhere online.) It amazes me that anyone could find it in the first place...but thankfully gmail is good about blocking it for the most part. Sadly I think that spam will never go away....we will always be combatting it.

Oh well, what can ya do?

It's one of those things that is a minor annoyance. Of course it's a pain to filter through it in your inbox (not to mention tasteless subject lines), but it's obviously not the end of the world. If spam one an e-mail account ever gets THAT bad, just close the acct & get a new e-mail!

No. With all the popup blockers and spam filters in e-mails. I haven't gotta spam e-mail in months. All the popups are blocked. I don't really have a problem with it. Let the people advertise. Just like the rest of the advertisements in the world you can just ignore them.

Because since I have a Yahoo account, and it does a good job at separating spam from good mail. But the hassle is that I have to check the spam box because sometimes, the spam filter filters out things that I might need.
