US democrats Obama vs Clinton?

calicamper
Who do you think will be running for US Pres. in '08? I hear alot of rumbling about an all-star battle between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. There's even a rumor that Al Gore might run again.

Who do you think will run for the Republican side?

Seeing as how the current attitude of the nation would make the election of a democrat likely, I'm hoping that neither Hillary nor Al will not be their choice.

i'm rooting for obama! although he needs a more public presence i think in the next few months...

I heard Obama on speech during the last presidential campaign for Al Gore. He does speak well, and it is really touching. But i havent heard of anything he had done so far. Anyone please tell me.

which party announce its candidate first?
is there any rule or established practice.

^It'll be voted on in the primaries. During that time, anyone who is registered to vote as a democrat can vote for which candidate will run for president. Since President Bush is not eligible for re-election, there will be republican primaries as well.

I think a Clinton/Obama or Obama/Clinton ticket may be the ending result. Bill Richardson of New Mexico is a possible candidate as well but I think he may fit more in a VP role personally. Edwards and Kerry have both thought about tossing their names in the hat but I don't think either will win the primary. Edwards may still make a good VP candidate to either Hillary or Barak.

As for the republican side, John McCain's name is being tossed around a lot. He has declined to run in the past but may be semi-forced into running as the only Republican that stands a chance this time around. There is talk of a McCain/Giulianni ticket which is the only Republican ticket that could stand up to any major scrutiny.

I would love for Gore to run again, but even moreso, I would love for Clinton to run !! <3

Sorry to be so ignorant on such matters, I am ENgish after all, but I thought that any President of the US had to be a man.

Am I wrong in thinking this, or has that rule been changed? Confused

I know Hilary Clinton has b*lls in some ways but she is still physically a lady.

It's not a written rule, but more of a societal barrier.

Obama has introduced something link 120 bills if I remember right.

There is no law against a female President, but there is a law against more than two terms in office, which would clearly prevent Hillary from running in this election. After all, we all know who wore the pants and ran the office during Bill's reign in the 90's.

The only Democratic candidate that I don't feel complete disdain for is Edwards. He seems like a really nice, overall good person and is willing to compromise on many moral issues.

As for the Republicans, our best bet at this rate looks like McCain or Giuilianni. Another presidential hopeful who might stand a chance, depending on Iowa, is Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney. He will most likely represent the more conservative bunch of the Republican party, but is very likable and has done good work within a very liberal area. Let us all keep our fingers crossed that Iraq will be settled by then and Americans will regain their common sense and vote smaller government via the Republican party.

The Republicans won't win the next election, I am fairly confident that the Democrats will win, simply because people want change (this coming from a Republican).

And I'm not sure America is ready for a female or African-American president. There's still taboo racial and gender role issues in the United States, as much as we like to pretend there isn't.

Agreed. The Democrats have a much better chance, but if they rally behind an overly-liberal candidate, I think a liberal Republican (ie. McCain, Rudy) might have a shot. And I also agree that a female or African-American candidate might turn off many Americans, which I think is a sad commentary on our part.

But I think the next 11 months are absolutely crucial for any Republican candidate. Iraq must be resolved by then and lots of questions need to be answered. I think the conservative agenda at this point needs to focus on fiscal and moral issues, which most of the country sides with Republicans on.

And what if both sides, republicans and democrates, have either a female or African-American candidate?

I think the problem is rather that a lot of people believe there is a taboo, while not having a problem with it themselves.

It's a shame Colin Powell won't run. An even more exciting possibility in a few years down the road... Condoleeza Rice. First African American, first woman, all in the same presidency.

I am so glad Clinton's finally announced her decision to run. I will definitely vote for her as president (if she wins the primary.) ^^

i think Hillary would make a good prez. Definitely better than the Twit you have right now! But the problem is that Republicans loathe her as much as they loathed her husband. So she would have to depend on swing voters a lot. Democrats will come out and vote for her. Another problem is the primaries. They can be very messy business where people tear each other to shreds. So hopefully Hillary will make through relatively unscathed.

As Barak Obama, i think he would be a great president after Hillary! He should wait, get some experience, let people become more familiar with him. Give himself time to build a good record. Right now his biggest problem is experience at a national level. So he should wait a while.

Bill Richardson is one guy to look out for. In my view he is going to be Hillary's biggest threat. I don't know much about the guy but he seems like a moderate dem, something that will appeal to swing voters. He is from the south, which is helpful. He doesn't seem divisive in the way Hillary is. He might actually come out on top. Yes Hillary is superstar among Dems, but she doesn't seem to have that cross-over appeal. Bill does and he might get the nomination with that in mind.

John Edwards, is more of a has-been to me. Frankly I am sick of the guy. He is a cool dude and all, he's got lots of charm and all that good stuff. but I swear, if I ever see him pumping his fist as he always does, I might have to burn something!!

John Mcain should just go for it! He is one Republican I would vote for. I strongly believe he should have been the republican nominee in 2000. To (mis)quote that Aaron Neville dude: I don't know much, (about Sen. Brownback) but I know I don't love him!

Crazy times lie ahead, it should be interesting

Al Gore will not be running for the presidential campaign... I would bet my life savings on that. Anyone who says otherwise is probably a republican trying to stir up uncertainty... Gore has found his "calling"-- he's working on an issue he's passionate about, and making a bigger impact than he ever could have in the white house with all the legal and political wrangling.

Go Clinton!!! Obama is too right-wing, he won't make much of a difference and what the usa REALLY needs is a big change in direction. Hilary can do it!!

Please, please, please... Americans don't seem to understand that their government plays a big part in other country's economies-- not to mention the future of the world as a global economy-- you're going to make us, and yourselves, bankrupt if you continue with such horrendous foreign policies.

Can you please stop electing incompetent retards?
