"There are images you just won't see on CNN because Americans don't want to see certain images on their television screens, and that's understandable," says Ms. Levallois. "But we are in Paris and we have real freedom of expression to raise different questions. And we have diplomatic liberty. We don't have the same constraints as the Anglo-Saxon stations and CNN which are linked to American forces in the region."

Only, we think that CNN has too much liberal bias; I fear that this French station will object to CNN on the grounds that it has not enough liberal bias.

I think that the French just miss being a world power (Napoleon, Charlemagne), their once great culture is being overshadowed by BBC and CNN and they can't stand their lack of standing in international politics. Even Venezuela gets more attention then they do. At least they are putting up a fight even if it is a little late to have much effect. Kind of similar to their cousins the British, the Spanish, the Germans, the Italians, the Greeks, the Russians... all former world powers. Not that I'm bashing on being a former world power, in fact I think that being a former world power has many benefits (you can remember the good times while having no responsibility for current world affairs)

if this french news site is only in french, it's going to cause problems. i think language and culture are directly connected, but they can't expect to spread appreciate french culture by not making it accessible to non-french speakers.

the french lose again...

The French language itself is a beloved part of that culture. But the journalists at the station see no irony in expressing a French view on the world in languages other than French.

It's good to have a quality news channel which provides a different perspective on international events. Nowadays, most people of the world who see english news channels get to see the American and British perspective in the form of CNN,BBC,Sky News etc. and in the case of Fox News, the extremist American Perspective.
On the other hand, Arab News Channel 'Al-Jazeera' has also launched an English version of their news channel, but because of their Arab origin they are allowed restricted freedom of reporting in certain parts of the world.
I hope that won't be the fate of the French channel.
