Erratic behaviour

i have an intel p4 2.4ghz on a intel845g mother board running windows xp professional and Win978se as dual boot system
for some time it has been acting erratic .
It wont detect the primary hard disk .while working it suddenly crawls to stop and the amount of disk space it show is less than the disk space but when i join the hard disk to other systems there is no error ,i have tried changing the data cables and the power connectors but to no avail.

Also all mine games have stopped running in Xp the just crash the system or make the cpu utilization to 100%

can some body help me

Virus probably. Or a full disk.

Blow the dust bunnies out of the inside of the case.

Verify that all large and small fans are operating,
including the fans inside the Power Supply Unit.

Try to see how much fluctuation is in the PSU voltages.

A weak or failing PSU can do some crazy things.

Did you perform a full defrag and chkdsk already ?
