Do we NEED Politics and Debate forum?

I know this has been suggested before, but I think it would help the news forum be a little cleaner. For example all these threads:
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-60148.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-59942.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-60258.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-59880.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-59754.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-56760.html
http://www.frihost.com/forums/vt-57986.html
Have no link to the source (which is blatantly against the rules of that particular forum), and most of them don't contain any news at all.

It just seems to me that the news forum is becoming a politics forum, weather we like it or not.
So, the way I see it there are four options:
-Enforce the rules in the news forum more strictly
-Rename the news forum "News and Politics" and remove or reword some of the rules
-Add a new forum where topics like the ones I linked to belong
-Delete the forum altogether

Yes, I agree with you. I would think making those forums would be good... It would be more organized and it would allow us to have debates, in a more specific forum.

Should there be a poll?
I'm all for the Debate forum.
I'm not so much for the Political forum, but other people probably are...

We've tried getting a debate forum, but to no avail. I think a structured, moderated debate forum with only those involved in the debate being able to post in that forum would be a good idea, especially for some of the heavey hitters we have here on many sides of many topics.

Then perhaps after a set number of posts, there could be a poll to see who won.

Just a thought.

^ It's an interesting idea, but not good for Moderator workload...
Special moderators only for the debate forum?

I disagree, i think there should not be atleast a Politics forum, because with politics comes arguments, with arguments comes debates, so if you want to have people flamming each other about politics, and fights breaking out, and friendships being lost, then i suggest no politics, plus most people get online to avoid the real life Smile like me

I figure a debate would take a week. At the beginning, two teams are chosen and only they are allowed to post in that forum. (I'm sure it could be automated to a large degree.) Other's may look at it.

After the set time, the topic is closed and a poll is put up to choose winners.

I like to debate. I would love one. You should make a poll for us to vote.

I would love a debate forum but the problem is, will the users be mature enough or will it just be a nightmare for the moderators?

Thats my thoughts

I think that the less "mature" people who would attempt to use the proposed Debate Forum for spam, offensive comments and such like would either be ignored by the people who are there to actually debate, and would eventually "lose" the debate in the end. If you're reading a thread that ends in a flame war, you're less likely to read/respect the opinions of those involved.

I dislike the notion of a voted winner once the debate is ended though. First, we're all partial judges. Second, it would motivate some to be more aggressive in taking the other team down rather than building their own argument. Also, the overall partiality of the judges may be biased in one direction (i.e. if there was a debate where some team was arguing against free web hosting, they would "lose" the debate no matter how well they presented their argument, since we all support free web hosting in some form or fashion). So I reject the popular vote, perhaps a panel of judges (a relatively impartial jury) could be chosen before the debate...

All in all, a structured debate forum could end up being a large task not in moderating posts, but in creating teams, judges, threads etc. Perhaps an automated process could help a little, but I believe that it would require a lot of work to set up and keep running. That's not to say I don't support the idea, but I think it may be a little much to ask of our lovely admins and mods.

I think putting a politics and debate forum would just create chaos in this friendly frihost forum. Better not!Smile But if there are rules and regulations to follow, I will go for it. I too is a political person. I love to talk politics and the things that is happening in our day to day situation.

I would love to see a debate feature, however the way frihost is set up to make posts, it's too linear to see all the sides of the subject. I think this would result in the debate not really reaching any coherent conclusion.
