Never heard of that "Sony Vegas".

Sony Vegas is cross platform & Premiere is PC only. If you go to the video production forum you will read about both of them. Smile

Check your sources dude. Both applications are for both mac and PC. And if you ask me, Final Cut(mac only) slaps both of these apps, real hard Wink

Check your sources. Premiere & premiere LE are Windows only. My source is Adobe... You know, the guys who make it....

I've only used Premiere pro. I just got a copy of Previere LE for my class and I may be getting a copy of Vagas w/some hardware I'm getting, hopefully soon like a couple of weeks. As soon as I use them I'll let you know.

I have only seen Vagas used on the Mac. I don't have any experience with any of the Vagas stuff. Wink

Both Vegas and Premiere Pro are used professionally. Premiere Pro is probably the most popular mid-high end video editing app on the pc, and yes, the newer versions, all of the 'pro' series, are pc only.

PPro also integrates nicely with other adobe apps; after effects, photoshop, encore, etc.

Vegas has its supporters too, (google 'VASST') especially amongst audio guys as it was developed by the guys that created the acid music loop software. My experience, although primarily with PPro, is that they are diffferent enough that it is really a matter of which feels more comfortable to you.

As to the comments about Final Cut Pro, it is Mac only. It is a good app as well, and with the help of loyal macheads, has gained much buzz as THE 'professional' software, outside of Avid. I have edited with it as well and it is good but not so much that I would quit using Premiere Pro.

One other thing about Premiere; many criticisms have been directed at it concerning its' stability. I've edited on dv systems and digi-beta quality systems for 5 years plus with premiere and its been very solid. What DID happen is that it was often used on poorly configured systems, sometimes powerful but with conflicting software drivers, etc. that screwed with Premiere. It did and does have its problems, but lots of negativity aimed at premiere was often because of the system it was on as well. One advantage of the Mac..."thinking differently" means tha apple severely limits your choice of hardware, but because of that the software written for it has fewer variables to contend with and software/hardware conflicts to worry about.

Neither, I do prefer Final Cut Pro and yes I know its for mac only but the reality of it is that Final Cut was the first real affordable editing software and kicked Avid's butt the year it came out fully and completely. I use Avid when needed as well and it has improved. I have used both Vegas and Premeire and they are both ok but mediocre to me.

Ok, there's a bit of disinformation here....let me clear it up.

Vegas AND premiere pro are PC only apps (unless you are running windows on one of the intel macs.) Final Cut Pro is a mac only app. I use Final Cut Pro BUT all three are very very good. If someone tells you one of them is "trash" or "no good" then they are either ignorant or have some kind of agenda. All three of them are very good. What kind of computer do you have? That will start you down the right path......

I would put my money on Sony Vegas. Way more intuitive interface and performance than Premiere.
But that is just my .02 $. Very Happy

Adobe Premiere is professional editing software, so I think it will beat Vegas with ease! I myself think that I'd prefer Final Cut Studio over Adobe, but Adobe isn't at all a bad choice, it's just so expensive! Sad

Check that out, some info on Final Cut Studio! A cool programme! Very Happy

Alot of misinformed info here! Lets set the record straight! I'm a video editor by trade and have used them all over the years.

Premier used to run in both Mac and PC. I think it was last year that Adobe decided to discontinue support for Mac. Premier pro will only run on a Windows machine.

Sony Vegas has only ever run on Windows and does not run on a Mac -however some clever coders out there have made it run on Macs but its performance was terrible.

Both applications are very powerful professional tools with great historys. Premier Pro is more common and the worlwide favourite. Its been around for years and has a proven track record. It also has more hardware support devices and also there are far more plugins and sources of independant support. It has proven to be the more buggy of the two.

Sony Vegas comes from the Sonic Foundry audio family. Sonic Foundry have mad professional studio applications for years! Because of this Vegas gets instant credibility. Up till Vegas ver4 it didn't quite cut it (no pun intended) but with the arrival of ver 5 they cracked it. Its now on Ver7. Users of Sonic Foundry products will notice that the interface follows that of its audio big brothers. Its sleek and easy. Also because of its audio heritage it comes with some very powerful audio tools that beat Premier hands down.

As a professional I used Premier Pro for years on my own system until i found Vegas. Now all i use is Vegas. I have found it to be superior to Premier but only in small ways so it may just be down to preference. Certainly for a learner, Vegas is much easier to understand.

When you get to a level of skill with editing your choice of application becomes irrelevant. Part of the process is knowing your application to get the best results, knowing what it is capable of and being able to get the most out of it. Pretty much all these applications do the same thing - they just have dirrfent buttons to do it and diffrent presets.

By far Final Cut Pro is the best software based application out there (by that i mean it does not depend on hardware support to run like Avid/Media 100/Canopus) but not all of us can go get ourselves a good Mac to run it.

My choice is Vegas. After using both Premier Pro and Vegas i settled on Vegas because for me it was the better of the two.
