Man to be living on the Moon from 2024

ryukenden
I am someone who like to visit moon and when I read following article, I find it really interesting.

"Human beings are to go back to the Moon within the next 15 years and this time they will stay, according to ambitious plans to establish a lunar base announced by Nasa.

The first manned mission to Earth’s satellite in two generations will blast off by 2020 to start work on an outpost that eventually will be occupied permanently, the US space agency said. "

I heard about this as well. I think it is interesting but it also seems like somewhat of a waste of money setting up a permanent residence on the moon considering all the basic needs that will not be provided naturally on the moon.

great idea. maybe humans will evolve too! become lighter and more agile because gravity and etc. are different there!

While this is possible I don’t think it will happen in this time-frame.

At the moment the US and other countries too have financial commitments elsewhere.

The thing is, we are so busy destroying our own world and if we are to be sure that we are of this rock before that big old asteroid hits us (if we haven’t killed the earth before then) we need to start looking elsewhere now.

There’s your happy thought for the day! Laughing

I also herd that they were going to mine Nitrogen and, Hydrogen(Think it was hydrogen)To build on mars.Is this true i herd it on the news(Fox). If you woud please conferm or deny my statement Smile

I heard that the Japanese also had their eyes on putting a settlement on the moon. I think i saw it in Discover magazine. But before we know it people will be living on the moon!

I think establishing a base on the moon is at least a step in the right direction for future space travel. I have some doubt as to whether one will be started by 2020, but at least they are thinking about such a project. A base on the moon would be beneficial in many ways. Research, launch point for other long-range missions into the solar system, mining, etc. And of course, eventually tourism. I mean, who wouldn't want to take a vacation to a resort on the moon Razz

One political problem that I'm wondering about though, who would/could stake claim to the moon? Would it be open for any country, or would it be restricted to a few? Also, how would the land be divided? Just some things to think about.

I guess it would be a similar situation to Antarctica, or basically, any nation that can actually afford to get there and has the appropriate technology could build bases and inhabit them permanently.

Initially it would be for research purposes only, combined with the odd tourist trip. Later on they would make attempts to colonize. Lessons there could be applied to other planets. Alternatively, they could try to do the same on both, the moon and Mars at the same time.

But I do not blieve that guys.

A Moon base is vital to further space colonization.

In conjunction with a space elevator, a moon base would make travel to other planets within our solar system a breeze (if a long trip).

A base on the moon would not be there for colonization purposes, as we all know, the moon is simply not habitable. A moon base would be a spaceport, or a jumping off point for other travels. The moon's gravity is almost negligible when talking about takeoff velocity, so even large inter-planetary ships could land and take-off without all the messing around that we have to do here on earth.

So, a space elevator to get materials off our planet and to the Moon Base, and the Moon base in order to get materials out to the rest of the planets!

I'm excited that it's happening in my lifetime!

I read an article that says they have confirmed the existence of water on Mars and that a station on the Moon would just be a staging point for a manned expedition to Mars. Interesting stuff, the article is:
