Does anyone use this here ?
I am a newuser and just experimenting with it now.
What I like about it, it looks very lightweight and easy to tinker with.
Any experts about ?
I've tried it before but its functionality depends on a lot of addons. If you wish to have a blog, then Blosxom is quite outdated. Try the newer ones, like WordPress.
Been long time since I used it. That was before I moved my server to here.
At first I liked blosxom as well because of its lightweight, and clean interface. For as long as you have cgi and php access, it doesn't need a database/mysql to run and blog -- sometimes I'd hate databases. It seemed quite easy to install and maintain for me at first. But then later it turned out not so -- it hardly worked as it was supposed to do without proper plugins. And installing plugins was way too time consuming [at least for me]. Some of them were not that easy to figure out [as the time I was new to blosxom]. A lot of plugin developers have stopped updating their plugins. Some even changed their own blogs to something better than blosxom. It's difficult to maintain that way although there's good blosxom source out there that helps. Just search around.
One more thing I didn't like about it is you can't modify your entries. Well yes you can actually, but then the date would change, to the time you've modified it or uploaded it to server. Sometimes, if it happens that you have to move all your entries around, what to do. There're maybe plugins for that, I just didn't care enough to find out....
In all, for me I think it's good to play with if you have much time on your hand, and probably would feel quite worth it and happy when having a thing or many things solved. Other than that, better change to something more advanced than blosxom. Better and more secure.
