Christmas is 25 December – Not 1 November

Have you noticed that shops start with their Christmas advertisements, decorations and sales ever year a few days earlier? I do not like this because I am still in a working spirit this time of year and this advertisements influence you heavily in thinking that it is the holidays already. Oslo, it is not Christmas yet but only the next month.

Also another matter: The shops have over commercialised Christmas in such a way that their advertisements irritate me.

What do you think of this matter? Does it also bothers you or can you live with it?

Most shops where I live don't have "Christmas" It's too offensive.

What's the problem? Stores want their stuff sold, so they advertise it. So what? I really can't stand it when people start taking a stand against advertising. Who really gives a damn, anyways?

I think you're overreacting a bit, don't you think? Stores are merely starting to get ready for the holiday rush and they're advertising all their products so they can sell them and make as much money as possible for the holiday rush. Nothing at all irritating about it. After all, they only do it once a year.

november 1st is way too early for that crap... people are too crazy.. i seen someone with christmas decorations in october! bugs the hell outta me.

Well, Christmas has always been a comercial holyday. Just like most holidays. It's a shame. People spend some much money on gifts and stuff, and poor families would just kill, for some food on that day.

Yeah I know what you mean, they did just that here in Melbourne, Christmas will soon become just as worthless as Easter, now most kids think that Christmas means Santa Claus's birthday, I mean I'm not even Christian, and I don't like it...
eliasr
anyway, its god damm 24 december Laughing

Well, think about it. If you wanted to buy everything on Christmas Eve, where would you go? How would you wrap presents? People need to buy things early. Advent (four Sundays leading to Christmas) is the time to prepare for christmas, and this is that time.

We have Christmas on 7th January. I don't know why. I like this holiday but there's nothing special in it for me. Maybe beacuse I have birthday on 11th January=)
Anyway, I go to the church and... that's all.

Actually whats irritating is it's done all year round, Christmas, Thanksgiving, Labour Day, etc. every Holiday it's the same. It's not just once a year. But I just tend to ignore these ads by channel surfing since most of the ads are either for women (body care products) or some boring Housecleaning Advance (Swifer) etc.

It seems that Christman has become too much about commercialism and money than spiritual belief, at least for those multinational companies.

Even average people feel that getting the wrong present will ruin Christmas or not having a Christmas tree will ruin Christmas...
You don't need any material items to enjoy a holiday, you just need faith.

At my house we don't celebrate Christmas, we are Muslims, but we do like to share happiness by replying to Christmas cards we get. I think that even if we do not celebrate it, doesn't mean we should be rude and not reply to people's kindness.

When I speak to my friends at school about Christmas, most of them seem to loathe it. I really don't know why! I really enjoy my religious holidays. I think that Christmas has lost it's meaning.

Yes I know what you mean, Christmas is lost, and its all thanks to these massive companies. Sad

Actually, where I live Christmas is 24 December, in Sweden Razz

I love getting my gifts before Thanksgiving. It's so much easier to have everything done before the hectic atmosphere of the holidays in December.

November 1 is a good day to get into the Christmas spirit, but just hold off the Christmas music for now!

Being a teenager, I can say that I love how commercialized christmas is because i love presents :-p But I do agree that christmas does not start in october.

Something else is the video game systems. they always release the new ones during christmas shopping time and release a limited amount on purpose. they know that during christmas time parents are crazy and will do anything to get the right gifts for their children and they use that. Someone was shot over a PS3 around where I live, it's just not right.
Soulfire
Um, so what - you'd perfer their advertisements go up on December 25th and down on the 26th? Christmas is not just a day, it's a season.
ocalhoun
1sr of November? The stores near me were putting up their Christmas stuff before Halloween!

Here in the Philippines, many people start putting up their Christmas Decorations as early as October. No problem for that. Christmas is the happiest day of the year. When I see such Christmas decors, I feel relaxed even on the hardest day. As long as It's not your house then why comment on it. And the advertisements, they just wanted to sell their products even before the rush time. They just wanted an income.

Well, in Norway we celebrate Christmas on December 24th. 25th of December is what we call "the first day of Christmas", or "1. juledag" in Norwegian.
crimson_aria
I live in the Philippines and here, Christmas spirit comes really early.. I don't mind. It's been like that ever since.

The stores want to sell stuffs early.
Blu_Spykz
Christmas came, on the 25th, and our superstore Tesco was shut.

Boxing day came, on the 26th, and our superstore Tesco had moved all the selection boxes and started selling easter eggs

FFS I don't even know when EASTER IS!
drazdesigns
so Jesus was born on December 25th, and Christmas is on 25th.. What a coincidance, Jesus was born on Christmas day Smile

Christmas doesn't even exist. It honestly doesn't. It doesn't really have anything to do with Jesus or God. It's a pagan holiday called Yule, when gift sharing was common. Since the Religious Jerkoffs couldn't stamp out the tradition, they incorporated it into christianity. So no, Christmas isn't a purely commercial holidy. It's a real holidy, masked by religion, and THEN butchered into 'BUY ME' day.

It seems strange when christmas stuff is in shops even before haloween, I guess they just want to make as much money as possible. It doesn't bother me though.
sibbahz
Ive also noticed as soon as christmas is over, the valentines gifts come out, then the easter gifts.... then mothers day/fathers day. Its getting stupid!
OutlawSpirit
christmas starts way 2 early.. and ends way 2 late.. it should b shorter Cool

I like the atmosphere around christmas, and I don't really care that it's too commercial, it's part of the modern world Razz

I personally detest christmas.

I detest all the shopping that has to be done.

If it was up to me, all advertising and mentioning of christmas would be restricted to the month of december.

I dont see the need for people to be planning for christmas i november. Its just silly
Vimor
I, like the last poster, personally hate christmas.

I think it is just another holiday so the stores can make billions and billions of dollars.

I mean really every year the christmas selling starts earlier because us stupid Americans think we need to spend $10,000 per child for 1 freaking day of the year. Hell even athiest's celebrate christmas..... Thats telling you that christmas is just a big hoax for stores to make money really.

I'm sorry, but what you said there is pretty ignorant and stupid. So what if Athiests celebrate it? They can do whatever they want, just like everyone else in the world. So what if a Hindu celebrates it, or if a Muslim celebrates it. It doesn't change what it means for everyone.

What a silly thought that is... If an Athiest celebrates it, it must not have much religious value!

well if i ran a store i would most defnintely advertise at the christmas time of year as its the time where people SPEND as almost everybody buys gifts for family and friends. most people like to shop early and find what they want before christmas day and beat the RUSH and also so they can do other things rather than shop. so if you advertise early you have a good chance of making more sales and get your customers in early. who likes to buy things at tha last minute?

I saw Christmas stuff go up in the UK in October. Costco is notorious for getting their Christmas stuff out really early. But then what about the all year round Chrismas stores
Lessien
wel, for starters i can understand why the shops start to sell christmass things so early, afterall their main concern is selling and getting profits, nothing more.
but to my they indeed start way to early, i mean starting to sell chrismas decoration from october? cause i personally make a dif between offering possible things for gifts and actual things you need to decorate the house and all. bout the gifts it's indeed handy that they start early but i don't wanna start decorating the house in october. christmass in in december, not october. and it's not only the shops here. in belgium we have the european version? of santa that comes on 6 december, saint nicholas or sinterklaas as we call him here(who is a saint who brought 2 murdered children back to life and is the patron saint of kids). so that makes it even more chaotic cause for that they also start 2 months earlier, often even sooner. so some shops still show the saint nicholas decoration and others the christmass deco. it basically gets to much, i often have urge to call: just wait a moment till one holiday is over before you start on the next one. but that's just me
but ya right, they start to prepare the holidays way to early these days. even the city hung her christmass decoration out in november. so it's not only shops here.
and i better stop ranting, i think
