Jeeps

Anyone love Cj7's. I have been rebuilding a 1984 CJ7 for about 6 months and still have alot of work to do on it. I am looking for any good ideas on customizing it for Off road use.

I'm a Jeep fan myself (I have a ZJ, though).

As for some ideas in rebuilding it...
Add a supercharger (I think they make superchargers for the straight 6 engine, though not the V8 Sad )
Paint the suspension parts to match the colour scheme. (Nothing's snazzier than that.)
Lift it and add oversize tires (of course)

I do like Jeeps. What are parts like to get? I know the Landrover is effecivley the British Jeep, as it was designed from the original U.S. Willys Jeep in 1947, to be sold in 48.

Anyway, as I was saying, what are the parts like to buy on Jeeps? Every Landrover from 1948-now is basically the same parts (cosmetically and some of the engine parts), apart from various facelifts the parts have remained the same, and 55% of evey landrover made since 1955 is still on the road today. The parts are extremely cheap it cost us £5.69 to buy a new indicator unit (cover, case, bulb, fitting, bracket and screws) after the balloon basket smashed it on a windy lift off. Thats about USA$8 for the entire indicator unit.

Jeeps, are I know very sturdy as they used to be dropped from planes on parachutes

A turbo works too Wink
At least to just increase power... does not give exactly the same torque and sound though.

^I suppose that's just because you're in the UK; in the USA, Land Rovers have a reputation for having extremely high parts costs. (Which is why I bought a Jeep instead.)
But yes, both of them are very reliable; that Willys Jeep was one good little truck.

I will have to get some pics. I haven't painted it yet but I was thinking of Yellow and Black theme. The parts for '84 are fairly cheap but there are some that are high priced. I currently have a straight 6 with a Weber carb. I have plans on putting in a V8 but the Straight 6 is ok for now. I also have a 3" shackle lift with a thought of going to a Leaf over suspension. Has anyone ever done a leaf over?

I posted on a different page, but yea I have one and love it.

It's an 02 TJ. It has a total of 4.5" of lift and 35 inch BFG MT tires on it.

Full Detroit locker in the back and a Powertrax "lunchbox" locker in the front. I've taken it offroad a ton. If I can figure out how to add pics, I'll try and post some. If not, I have some pictures on my myspace page. www.myspace.com/jeepinjeff

Wow, you're going all out on it... How much are you planning to spend?

Also, I might warn you that a V8 can actually give a CJ too much power. I knew a guy who had a CJ with a V8, and he was always getting it stuck. The thing had so much power that it was nearly impossible to accelerate in low traction without spinning the wheels. So, if you do, perhaps you should give thought to that. Perhaps just being careful with the gear ratios would help enough.
