Is mod_rewrite enabled?

cr3ativ3
I was wondering if mod_rewrite was enabled on the server because I was adding a thing the .htaccesses file so when someone tries hotlinking a image from my site they would see a hotlinking image i created this is the code I added to my .htaccess file.

Code:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^$
RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} !^http://(www\.)?oyoystudios.frih.net/.*$ [NC]
RewriteRule \.(PNG|jpg|bmp|)$ http://www.oyoystudios.com/templates/smooth/smooth green/tutorial/images/hotlink.PNG [R,L]

But now any files I try reaching in the folder the .htaccess file is in I get a 500 Internal Server Error.

The page I found this tutorial to do this on said it won't work if mod_rewrite is not enabled here is the address to that page: http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/htaccess10.shtml

Thanks

Hmm. it says its a loaded module I also saw another topic saying its enabled I guess now I am just trying to figure out why that code didn't work.

It's enabled.

The 500 error is almost certainly because the server doesn't accept the .htaccess file, maybe because of an error or incompatibility. Try to change the configuration of your .htaccess file. Also try to build it from scratch (add part by part) to see which part is causing the error.

K thanks. I will try that and get back to you or this topic I should say.

a internal error is also caused when you change the encoding when you save
please use Notepad to write .htaccess and not Wordpad Wink

K, Thanks but I used the editor in Direct Admin for those types of things. Very Happy
