What do you expect from a link directory script

vignesh_natraj
I have started coding my own link directory script. and i have just created 5 tables what features are you expecting from a directory script
how shouls the URl be should it like site.com/cat/ ot site.com/cat.html or site.com/cat/index.html and what other features are you looking in a script

As for the URI, all of your examples would be valid addresses - as for display, you could display it all similar to Google search results:
....... [Top Level Category] | [First Child Level] | First Grandchild Level:
.......
.......First Site Name an example of some description for this site...
.......http://domain.com/subdomain/folder/index.ext
.......
.......Second Site Name description for second example site...
.......http://nextdomain.com/subdomain/folder/index.ext

I really can't see why you'd need 5 separate tables for this... why? Can you go into any detail about your current tables?

For each listing, I would want to display a short description and have them all categorized.

I would have these tables and fields:
Sites
name - varchar 50
URI - varchar 128
description - text
category - int

Categories
category - varchar 50
categoryid - int
parentcategoryid - int
categorydescription - varchar 100

If a category has no value for "parentcategoryid" then it is a top-level category... otherwise, it is a category that is only visible when in that level.
