I'm 30 years old and have never learned to drive. But I find I get by just fine as I live near work, and my wife drives
I have a bicycle if need be.
Does anybody else get by without the need to drive.
Sadly, I wish I could relate. Since I turned 16, I have never been able to get by without a vehicle. I am constantly having to drive around to see clients miles away. Our bus system sucks, and walking is time consuming when I have such a tight schedule. I used to ride my bike before I got my license, but I started a business, and that has kept me going constantly.

I'm office based these days and only live about half a mile away from work
If I moved out of the area or had to start travelling around a lot for work, I'd have to consider learning.. I've managed ok for 10 years though
wow, 10 years with no car and I would go crazy. Heck 6 months without a car and I would go crazy. I'm buying 2 in the spring and selling the one I have now. I'm buying a BMW 325Xi and an RX-7. The BMW because it's practical and still fun, and the RX-7 because, well, project sports car will be underway.
Project Sports Car. I like it
I will learn eventually. It's just so expensive in the UK to learn now.

You must be doing pretty dang well with that business of yours then.
yeah wat do you do for your job i wanna try to base my biss on what you have achived
I also managed without a car until I was thirty. I have one now but do not use it all that much - I mostly use public transport. I always think it's nice to have someone else doing the driving, then I can get on with reading, or playing games or something else useful...
you guys suck becoues i could never be in da car wit another person driving

You could never be in a car with another person driving, therefore they suck?
That, and 45% of the post is spelling and grammar errors.
im not a good passenger either...
that said, i couldnt live without my car, i have friends and family all over the place, and if i didnt drive, i'd have little time for anything except travelling - just part of modern day life!

CK ALL DAY
I bike from my dorm to class, but a car is needed for me. Home is around 100 miles away from my university so when I go back home I drive.
Still I think its a great idea that you bike to work. Less pollution, and it keeps you healthy. I think I'd like to do the same if work was near by me. Also it probably saves a ton of money.
here in the UK, cycling to work isnt really considered an option by most - mainly due to the weather!
but yeah, if it was a more viable option, i'd be all for it!
What??!!!! You dont drive?? I cant belive it!!! hey man!! you should try!!
I think that its good to use bycicles and stuff to move yourself... and gasoline is not good... but you shoud try to drive a car... Its easy and it feels so good!
I use a bike and a 4-wheeler in the summer.. It's pretty fun.. Unlike a car where you have to stay on the road.. You can blast through the woods, over stumps, off of jumps, through rivers and more.. It's just a lot more fun than a car.. And if it's straight enough.. You can go faster than other cars.
And in the winter, I ride my sled.. ( SNOWMOBILE SLANG TERM ) and that is just by far the best. You can cross lakes.. Ride the trails.. And during blizzards, ride the roads and pass all the cars you want..
I just have a quick question. Why didn't you ever learn to drive?
i live in rainy scotland and cycle everywhere...
i will admit, it isnt the cleanest of activities (nice mudline up the back sometimes!) and also it is difficult to carry a lot of stuff..and its cold and windy here which can go against you..so why do i cycle again? i know i had a point...
Ah yes! I would be far too dangerous behind the wheel of a car! lol
And its good for the heart
not to drive in this day and age is nothing less than stupidity. sorry to be mean but it had to be said. you shouldent go thru life depending on every one else in you life

Well, as our 30-years-old mentioned: he lives near his work and has a nice wife. Not for every profession you need a car. for instance if you live nearby the university what is where you work, and nearby a railwaystation that is connected with airports you can manage and will survive in this mobile world.
I'm 24 and don't have a driverslicense. I am HR-manager for a small consulting-bureau (around 35 people). and i'm getting along fine. I'm now thinking about a license, because I finally swim in money; my parents never could affort funding me for getting my driverslicense.

I'm a web developer, and network development specialist. My site hasn't been updated in a very long time, mostly because my customers are word of mouth and the easiest way for them to get info is to call me. I've been doing this for about 4 years now, and have been very successful. I'm also sub-contracting for a company that does point of sales systems. I help with coding issues and physical installation. Things are going well for me and I've also changed from the BMW to an RX-8 and I'm still getting the RX-7 if my buddy doesn't sell it before I buy it from him.
Having a car and being able to drive SUCKS. BECAUSE I DO have a car, I use it. I pay high gas prices and I drive it. It takes me places.
I wish I didn't have a car. Then I would bike and take the bus like I did when I was 15. STUPID CAR. Sure I COULD bike and take the bus, but why should I? I have a car! It's ready whenever! Ugh.. whatever.
Even i dunno how 2 drive..... Luckily i have a chauffeur to take me around
I don't know how I'd survive without being able to drive. Many of the jobs I've had depended on it.
I did know someone, about 20 years ago, who lived in London and always said it was cheaper to use taxis than it was to learn to drive and buy his own car. I wonder if the same is true now.
I think there's a high probability that many people will be priced off the roads in the next 10 years so I'm sure you're not alone.
We will soon run out of oil. Since we usually tend to not deal with problems until they actually happen, as soon as we run out of oil, chaos. Complete chaos. 98% of the machines that people use to move themselves around or to move things around are powered by oil. If China were using oil like the Unites States, we'd run out tomorrow. The US uses a quarter of the world's oil but we take up like what... is it 5% of the world population maybe less? Well, all I'm saying is.. We are effed. As soon as oil even starts running out, you won't be able to sell your SUVs, everybody will be stealing gas from eachother and/or buying mass quantities of it and storing it in a garage. 2015 is the year that we will officially have no more oil left. According to who? According to me, and research that oil companies themselves have conducted. Oh well. That really sucks I guess. But for real, you guys gotta get into alternative fuels. Big money.
I'm 21 now, and I just got my liscense. I had a driver's permit for 5 years before I finally got my liscense. My family is really into bicycle advocacy, so I biked all over my town, and just didn't ever have much motivation to drive. Cars weren't really a symbol of freedom to me like they were to so many of my friends. When I graduated from high school, and started taking all types of road trips, I started wanting a liscense so that I'd be able to share driving. Finally, after a few yrs slacking, I got one!
But I don't use it much, cuz I live in NYC & still love my bike
I am legally blind in my right eye, and therefore have no depth perception. I actually do have a license but never felt comfortable driving and don't actually do it. Besides, where I live you don't need to. You can always take the bus or subway or ride a bike, which is cheaper, more convenient, and better for the environment anyway. My friends who do drive all use a local service called ZipCar where you can rent a car by the hour, hardly anyone actually has the money or interest to have their own car.
I think that is really cool not to drive, because everybody thinks he needs to drive a car, but if you can get along without one, you live a lot cheaper and a lot more environment-friendly..
I drive to uni every day even though there is a bus that I could (and sometimes do) take. It costs me 80 cents more (AUD) a day to drive but it saves me 30 minutes each way, I don't have to stand for hours if I can't get a seat and I leave and arrive whenever I want. I don't normally have to drive in peak hour, but when I need to get to uni early I usually catch the bus because the time saving isn't really worth it. The only thing I like about the bus is you can do stuff on the way ie. study for tests and things, oh and then I can drink at uni if there's a bbq on! Other than that car > bus any day!
