I've been playing Thief 3 recently (I bought it a long time ago but never got to really playing it). Its an interesting game where you go around breaking into houses, stealing items, and picking peoples pockets, all the time trying to keep away from the semi-stupid police, and knocking them out from behind with a blackjack. The graphics engine has a lighting system that allows you to truly hide in the shadows, which is probably the most interesting aspect of the game.
One thing that I think they push too much is the religious connotations, which is the underlying force driving the plot of the game. However, you can generally ignore them, exploring all areas looking for more loot.
