Thanks for the links. Most things I run on Win are OSS. It's usually safer and often runs better than commercial software. Especially MS bloatware.

I think what you meant to say was don't use "commercial" software. That way you're not viewed as a pirate, like my initial thought was when reading your post saying not to pay for software.
