I have Gimp, and I have tried to figure out how to make things movable. I dont see how. Is it easy? Does it require alot of work? Can I not do anything like that on Gimp?
If you can, could someome please tell me how, and explain the basics for me? I dont know what I would be doing.
Gimp has an add-on program called GAP, the Gimp Animation Program. Go to the gimp site and search their tutorials. As an aside, Gimp is primarily a image manipulation tool.
Other programs, such as Flash and Anime Studio (aka MOHO), are vector based, specifically designed for animation and will 'tween frames' for you, so you don't have to hand draw/manipulate each frame. Programs such as Adobe's Ater Effects import assets from other graphics/video programs and animate those assets by position, scale, effects, etc. (After Effects can generate some of it's own media; type, some vector shapes, etc.)
If you are trying to create cartoon type animations and are really good at hand-drawing, the Gimp or Toon Boom Studio might be good for you, otherwise Flash, Kool Moves or Anime Studio might be better. If you are more into effects/experimental animation check out After Effects. Also, Jashaka, an open source program, looks interesting, a video editor, graphics, special FX program. And it's FREE!
Yes GAP is Gimps Animation Program. It's alright, i personally never use Animation, but for projects that i did use it it worked. pixel2life.com has tutorials.
Does anybody know if there are any open source animations, or opensource in general for the Mac?
I am looking for animation on the Mac for as little $$ as possible. Free would be nice.
what kind of animation are you looking into doing?
Try e-frontier's Anime studio. It's about $50 and it's designed to do animation.
