Type with smooth edges...a suitable program

I'm trying to find a way of making quality headings (up to 30-40 pt) where the type has smooth edges without a sawtooth/pixilated finish. I'm looking for a variety of fonts but nothing too jazzy. I'm not very interested in dynamic gifs but just good, clean, smooth letters.

Can anyone recommend a suitable program?

you could use adobe photoshop(of ADOBE - not free)...gimp(free..open source)....corel draw(NOT free)
