computer froze... external not working

Talk2Tom11
I have a really big critical problem.... my computer freeze with an external attached to it while it was on. I shut down my computer manually because that was the only way i could. When i turned the computer back on it didn't see the external at all. When i tried plugging it into another computer it said that the drive had to be reformatted. Is there any way to get my stuff. I really can't lose any of this data. If anyone can help please post.

Were you writing to or modifying the contents of the drive when your computer decided to freze up? I am guessing that there probably is no easy way to recover the data if that is the case.

That's why using "safely remove hardware" is essential for removing drives. Otherwise, you can lose data.

And I know it is too late now, but you should ALWAYS keep at least one backup of anything that is important to you.
