Atheist and proud of it

azfad
Anyone else here of the same persuasion?
Subsonic Sound
Proud? No, not especially.

I am an atheist, but I don't see that it's anything to be particularly proud of. Or ashamed of.

It's not like it takes a special talent.

Hell yes.

oddly enough i do feel a modicum of pride in it. being brought up in a resolutely catholic country, during most of my younger life i was bomarded with lots of religious proselytising but i rejected it at a young age.

i think i've had a great life ever since, made lots of friends - had lots of fun without harming others (as much as i could anyway), and i like who i am.

(blech pass the sick bag)

Another Atheist here. I am ridded the responsibility of attending a Church or being restricted from foods and things. I am free.

I respect everyone, though.

proud... not quite the right word to describe myself about my religious persuasion.. or lack there of. I suppose in some sense you can say I believe I have not followed the crowd, almost my entire family is religious but none critisise me.. though I think some of them willfuly ignore it and I dont make it a big deal.

So proud.. not really.. atheist yes.
Bikerman
Yep, I'm an atheist. Proud would not be word I would use about my atheism since it would be like being proud of not believing in ghosts, or proud of not having a wooden leg or proud of not having red hair. Atheism is not a faith (despite what many religious folk seem determined to believe). It is NOT a faith and therefore it is not a positive thing, but a lack of such. Disbelief in gods does not require faith - it's an important point of difference.
A broad definition would be that atheism is the absence of belief in the existence of any gods, NOT a 'disbelief' which is an active belief (even if negative) as opposed to a LACK of belief which is not.

Atheism is sort of a religion. Please post your opinions in the Official "What is your religion?" topic.
