James Bond 007 - Casino Royale 2006

bosschaerts
- Hello,

14th of november is the release date in England of the latest James Bond film Casino Royale. In Belgium it is only released on 22nd of November..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0381061/

With Daniel Craig as the new James Bond. Lost of rumors and confusion were made about his spy-ability.

"Casino Royale" is not new. Ian Fleming's novel is already produced
as a 1954 television episode and later in 1967 as a comedy film with David Niven as James Bond, Orson Welles as the villain Le Chiffre, also Woody Allen, Ursula Andress and Peter Sellers... Hard to do better.

Casino Royale 2006 is a reboot of the franchise in the same light as Batman Begins. After obtaining his 00-number and his licence to kill, James Bond sets out on his first mission which takes him to Madagascar to spy on a potential terrorist. Soon after, Bond is pulled into a game of high-stakes poker in Montenegro with Le Chiffre (as Mads Mikkelsen), who provides a global money-laundering service to many terrorist organisations.

Are there any JB fans/collectors in this forum?

Or what about the next James Bond in a row?
Most people (me too) prefer the first James Bonds: Sean Connery and also Roger Moore. What about George Lazenby? Also Timothy Dalton and
Pierce Brosnan. And now Daniel Craig ...

Enjoy your Martini - shaken not stirred Smile

Most uncharismatic Bond ever.

That is too soon to say. I think the movie is gonna be cool. I remember when Brosnan made his first JB. Everybody was kinda skeptic, but he totally pulled it of. Let's wait and see.....If nothing else, Aston Martin DBS looks awesome.

I too think it is wiser to wait and watch

If Daniel Craig does seem lousy, then it would be OK to bury him

But he should be given a chance

Though i do disapprove the comments by Barbara Broccoli
rein
i agree with scorpio that it is too soon to tell.
With Daniel Craig playing our beloved secret agent, i think it's safe to say he'll be less of a 'gentle'man and more of an 'action'man. He sorta looks like he walked straight out of a zombieflick doesn't he? He is quite good with action though, and it's clear to me they're gonna rely on the action to keep the bond-franchise going.
That being said, the trailer (found here) looks cool! We all just might be surprised and discover how much more Bond can be than what the -let's face it- rather "uptight" Pierce Brosnan made of him these last few years.
I hope i won't get too much of a 'mission impossible' feel when i go see this one. Slightly worried about that.

who is Barbara Broccoli?

I'm not really a James Bond fan, but I don't know why they changed the actor, that was lame. I like Pierce Brosnan, not this random actor who bedded Sienna Miller.

I don't know why they changed the actor,

"They" didn't change the actor, Brosnon didn't want to do it anymore.

I like the direction they are taking with the new Bond movie. I'd like to see a darker, more violent, less gimmicky Bond film, and this one seems to fit the bill.

We'll see if it is any good soon.
pudovkin
I'm waiting for a little more violent Bond. Hope Craig fill the job.
androjuni
i think Daniel Craig isn't quite right. his looks are not quite as polished as the past 007s, he's too far from Sean Connery-the greatest bond ever. and a lot of people simply don't know him and might hesitate to watch. but a bond movie is a bond movie, it will always sell. and i hope that Casino Royale will offer more action. Im so happy Pierce Brosnan is no longer the 007, he's too skiny for the role for me, too much of a lover boy.

Bond movies are being shown in chronological order in cable TV. (Star Movies). Cool
ChrisCh
Pierce Brosnan is my favourite James Bond... and from what I've seen from the Casino Royale trailers, it's likely to stay that way!

I just don't think Daniel Craig can fill Brosnan's shoes Exclamation
Tokci
I think the movie will do good business irrespective of daniel craig being the new bond...its a BOND movie...it has to do good.

Reagarding Daniel craig i think he should be given a chance...we can not write him off withot even watching the movie...neway only 4 more days to go.
dac_nip
how good is this movie? will it be a sure blockbuster hit?
magneto_ms
pierce brosnan's shoes would be one tough one to fill up..i have seen very litttle of Daniel Craig..I am not sure if he would be able to do what Brosnan did. It looked as if Bond series was made for Brosnan. He looked perfect in that role.

But let's not write off Craig. He has got that ruthless look when he is angry just like Bond in Ian Fleming's books.

Hope he does good. Can't wait for the movie !

The Movie releases on Nov 17 , then we will see what is the review
angelussum
The media seems to have done a 180 on this guy and the movie. I don't know. I almost want to see it just to see what the fuss is about. Until then, I reserve my judgement on him.
odinsrealm
never been a great bond fan to be honest but this movie looks promising, he has played some good roles in past films and i hope he does the bond character justice

The BBC reports that the world premiere of Casino Royale, the 21st official James Bond film, has brought out the stars as well as thousands of 007 fans in hopes of meeting Daniel Craig and others at the grand event.

But in INDIA it will release on 17Nov.

I like very much Bond(007) film. and 'Golden Eye' is my favorite film in this category.

The new man for this movie is Daniel Craig.
Craig, said: Im just very excited. These sort of things happen once in a lifetime and Im just trying to enjoy it. When asked how he compared Casino Royale to previous Bond films, he replied: Its not up to me to compare them. Casino Royale is still a Bond movie and theres a love story.

I'll be going this weekend to see it most probably. I'll leave some comments here when I've seen it.

Pretty excited, as usual with new bond films but if they've ruined it with this new bond I'm going to be in angry-mode Laughing
okullar
I like it. I am happy that there was no Brosnan anymore. Smile I think craig is good on this role. Just a little "budy" Very Happy like the bodies in old "Abshaper" advertisements. Laughing

I think that there are all kinds of movies in this film. Not only silly action scenes, also poker is a different way Smile

I must see it! Very Happy

Just got back from seeing it, and all I can say is amazing. They havn't wrecked it at all and the new bond fits in very nicely. As usual it's put together in a really clever way. Less gadgets and more focusing on the gritty bits instead of the silly crap (definite recovery from last two films). Best I've seen since Goldeneye in 1995. I'll give it 95/100 for the minute at least but I must leave myself more time to think about some of the cons but I still beleive there are very few.

I recommend it.
theLOGANhole
Damm, I can't wait to see it. I heard all kinds of news from it and I'm happy that most of it is good. Finally they might bring back the james bond franchise

Casino Royale: Best Bond film ever

Putting behind the outrageous stunts and action scenes that have made the Bond films worldwide favourites for over two decades, Casino Royale nevertheless offers a tense, gripping and entertaining film in which, perhaps for the first time ever, the fabled super spy is seen as bit of a human being. Arguably, it is the best Bond film ever.

Thirty-eight year old Daniel Craig, playing James Bond for the first time, shows that the reputation he had built in a handful of films including Steven Spielberg's Munich will continue to grow.

Casino Royale, which is very likely to continue Bond's enormous spell on the international box office, also offers a raft of fine performances. Judi Dench, the grand dame of the British theatre and a household television name, once again creates a commanding performance as Bond's boss.

The new movie is the 21st film in the series but since it also happens to be based on the first Bond novel, it offers an introduction to the career of Bond. This is achieved in a few minutes of intense black and white episode right at the start that telegraphs the amorality and arrogance that are the hallmarks of the super agent.

But we also get to see some emotions in the character, and that is no small achievement. It is like some fine novelists like Eric Ambler played an invisible part in rewriting the new movie.

last ENJOY BOND amazing movie

Anyone else besides me who felt that the techs used this time is abit less? The amount of time spend on utilizing the Aston Martin DBS and gadgets are too little ><

I think it is fun to watch but I prefer previous James Bond.
Jayfarer
The Pierce Brosnan Bond films got too ridiculous and formulaic. They were just big budget action films with no personality or anything interesting outside of explosions. This seems like a step in the right direction - Making films that are more than just pretty to look at.
FunDa
I haven't seen it yet, but in the beginning I thought it would be really bad because Daniel Craig didn't like to play the part in the first place.

He was called James Blonde Very Happy and all that ! He himself confessed that he has been to only one single Bond movie in a theatre and that too when he was a kid and his father took him. And that he read the book recently but tore off the cover so that nobody recognised what he was reading, and later he dumped the book in the trash.

But judging from what people are saying, it seems to be a good one ...
I guess it shall be See and Wait . Shocked

I also agree that. But Pierce Brosnan was one of the most handsome and perfect JamesBond I have ever seen. The kind of smile coming from his face - no others can replace that.

Maybe he has a better look, but I think Daniel Craig is a better physical actor. Unlike Brosnan, this guy does way more martial arts, and convincingly.

I saw Casino Royale a couple of days ago, and it is definitely the best Bond film I have ever seen. Better than Goldfinger.

The new guy is great, and the story is refreshing. James Bond is human, he has problems, he has flaws, and the story feels real. It's great, full of creative action scenes and funny one-liners. A great Bond film, and a good normal film.
ritesh26
Pierce Brosnan is my favorite hero. Different persons have different views.
dac_nip
its a different james bond in this casino royale! his more brutal and uses a lot of karate compared to other james bond. cool, and intelligent. Very Happy
bosschaerts
Wow I was rather impressed while watching this movie.

In the beginning I thought I was watching a "Spiderman" movie, as they were flying and jumping around in building and cranes.
And the trick of the cardiac arrest and his defilibration apparatus as a nice gadget in his Ford Mondeo 007 was impressive.
Is 007 now driving an Aston Martin or a Ford or ...?
And Daniel is hard to understand while he rather mumbels...

But I do not like to spoil the movie.
See it for yourself and convince me to enjoy it Surprised
And please: the movie is so filled with action that I advice you not to blink too much with your eyes, because you might miss some details Cool

This James Bond movie did not convince me as I still rather prefer the previous Bond movies with the good old Pierce Brosnan, Sean Connery and Roger Moore. Maybe old fashioned, but Casino Royale is a big step for a James Bond lover...
And another 007 movie with Daniel Craig is to be expected in a few years.

I probably do have to watch the new JB style movie a couple of times to gasp everything and at the same time trying to passionate with the new James Bond, trying to be more human.
pudovkin
I didn't watched yet, since the premiere in Brazil didn't happen yet.
But, as I saw on trailer, I think Bond has no expression (face expressions, I mean) and looks like a boring guy who suddenly gets a gun and kill everybody in a party, for example.
I want to watch "Casino Royale" very bad, but I don't expect a good experience...
mattchun
I've heard that the actor to play James Bond will be change to an unknown actor, can't wait to see his performance.
KoiboySG1
I have seen this movie yesterday. a verry nice movie but not a bond movie.
mialynavahy
great movie but i dont know i prefer a pierce Bosnam Bond than a daniel craig... Sad
magneto_ms
I have watched the movie. Yes, it is different from the usual Bond movies. In Casino Royale, for a change the villain doesin't have a weapon that produces mass destruction !

But I would prefere Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig. True Daniel Craig is more physically rugged looking and better combat moves, but I somehow believe that he lacks the charisma that Brosnan has. You feel the difference in screen presence. Brosnan was IMO on just another level. I don't think honestly anyone could replace him.

But just as someone above commented: 'Different people, different views !'
The Phoenix
I just recently saw Casino Royale..even though i thought the movie would be crap since i didn't really like Craig as the new Bond, before i saw the movie.
But after i saw, it all changed.
4 the role that he played in this movie (the rookie Bond), he played his part to perfection.
I really don't think Pierce could've pulled off the role in this movie cuz he just ain't built 4 action like Daniel Craig.
Craig made the character of Bond, seem more real and less like the Ultra-Superhero who sometimes Bond seems like in other movies when he just goes around firing direct hits with each bullet he fires and is too calm. It's way too unreal.
In this movie, Bond is definitely Daniel Craig, and nobody else could've done it better.

If u haven't seen it yet, go watch and dont expect a regular Bond flick..
this one's more violent and has way more action and waaaay more fun 2 watch.
chrismen
I just have to say that this has been the best Bond movie I have ever seen. The poker scenes are shot so perfectly and so is the chase (on foot) scene at the beginning. I loved it. Also, Bond doesn't use unrealistic gadgets in this one which was a super plus for me (let us remember the invisible car...).

Hi people,

I didnt liked the actor was chosen for the role to James Bond - there was so many actors and in my opinion They chose the worse one.

I didnt see the movie yet, but I dont wanna, because the actor.
I will read something more about the movie for think about.

Bye,
dingdongduck08
i really really loved the introduction to the movie though, even if it was a big change with the new actor playing bond.

The style was very awesome, does anybody have any ideas about how i can make something like that for my own films?

the song written by the audioslave guy was pretty good as well.

and i must say, the chase scene in the begining of the film was kick ass, i wouldn't have known that that was an actual sport in europe if i hadn't done a project on it a year ago.
The3dx
hmmmm...is it a good movie like the old ones?
is it a james bond material?
pudovkin
Finally on Brazil, a few days ago.
Hope to watch as soon I get back from vacations.

I'm just curious why people think Pierce Brosnan was good Bond. Has anyone even read the original Fleming novels? Or seen any of the early films? Brosnan was one of the WORST Bonds IMO.

The Phoenix put it best when saying Brosnan's Bond was too super-hero-esque and not as realistic. I like that this film had much less of the ridiculous gadgetry that the Bond films have featured in recent years. There are no such things as invisible cars or laser wrist watches, and it makes it hard to suspend disbelief when I have to see such silly devices used as Deus ex Machina.

oh no!! Crying or Very sad now the Bond series is ruined!!!
i hate when someone take good thing and ruin it.. Sad

This is the best Bond movie I ever saw... definitely much better than Pierce Brosnan's Bond. Cool

I came into the cinema with very low expectations [as I don't really dig the idea of Daniel Craig as Bond], but lo and behold! One word: AWESOME [in every sense of the word!].

As everyone else have pointed out, they have cut down on the gadgetry and have concentrated on the nitty-gritty action.

Daniel Craig's Bond is a strong and very powerful character. He may not be as suave or as "pretty boy" as the previous Bonds, but this is one of the reasons why we love his performance: it's a breath of fresh air. It is action-packed, clever, and pure class. Cool

Don't be too skeptical. Do give the movie a chance. Smile I did, and I have no regrets. Wink

Well, by reading the previous posts I can clearly say that most of those who did post have no idea about how James Bond came into existance.
You guys seem to have watched the movies and made this particular image of Bond in your mind which you are just not able to replace.

Ian Fleming's James Bond was no soft-hand girl loving sissy as Pierce Brosnan was portrayed in the movies. I do not say that he did not fit the role but I do say that he definitely did kill the total idea of James Bond - the secret agent. He was more of the funny romantic guy. Ian Fleming's James Bond was no where close to romantic. He did have a touch with the feminine side but he was a strong daring Secret Agent.

Daniel Craig I feel is the best for James Bond. His looks depict each and every characteristic that Ian Fleming would have wanted on Bond's face.
As far as Casino Royal is considered, I feel it was the best Bond movie after the Sean Connery ones. It finally showed the Real Bond.

The look on Craig's face before he crashes the car was simply amazing.
Watched the movie quite a few number of times already and still dont seem to get enough of it.
scarfiegirl
I thought I would hate casino royale but it turned out to be a great movie and there was still some of the expected things: music, the gun barrell. I liked the final scene. I did miss the moneypenny interaction with all the double entendre but it was still great.
angelussum
I saw this a while back and it was surpassed my expectations. Daniel Craig plays a different, but still very interesting Bond. The pace of the film is different from the last few, but it's certainly not for the worst.

And while the movie did drag in a few areas, most of it was action-packed and kept your attention. I'd definitely recommend it, just for the experience of seeing a new take on the Bond series.
HDirtwater
Well, I finally saw this film, and I can say with all honesty that Daniel Craig and his James Bond is a total badass!!

I loved this film from the beginning to end and I hope he does several more.
bluefossil
I saw this while i was down in Orlando, Fl for my work last February. I didn't want to see it. but once I did watch it, I thought it was great. But I was wondering on how the rest of his movies will work out. Since this was a prequel, and coming of Bond to 007. Will the rest of his movies be like the others, and he is now the seasoned veteran 007. or are there going to be more early adventures of Bond?
rheanna
I was disappointed. Movie was so predictable. Movie sucked if you ask me.
pudovkin
I think Daniel Craig is a robot. It can do marvelous things, but can't communicate well. lol

I've liked the change they made on Bond's tradition. It was very brave and risky, but they succeeded.

When I watched, I got crazy at the first sequences (until the embassy scene). But, then, the film starts to became crappy. The visit to M's house, that's where the decline starts, is the worse part of the film. Bond becomes too heavy to Craig.

But... I expect Craig get better, without losing his identity of a brutal 007.

(and I'm very curious about Walter Salles' new film with Craig, because it's probably a film that demands a lot of dramatic power from an actor... or not)
guugu
i think that was great movie... "dry martini" "shaken or stirred?" ""Do I look like I give a damn?" Very Happy i was so lol:ing on that part
bigbadjohn
This film was great! Daniel Craig makes a convincing Bond. He is more along the lines of the much maligned Timothy Dalton who I thought made a great Bond and the Bond films he made were the most realistic and brutal, within the Bond franchise, that was until this film.

Crash bang wallop, this film packs a punch and although Craig's Bond lacks a bit of personality Im sure subsequent films will see him open up a bit more.

It is interesting to contrast Craig's Bond with Roger Moore's Bond they seem like 2 completely different characters.
