the screen has a noticable crack down the middle and nothing will display. is there anywhere i can take this to get it fixed? or should i just buy another one?

There actually are services where you can get iPod LCD's repaired, however the ones I've seen cost well over $100. It would be a much better idea to buy a new one. If I can find a link to the service that repairs iPod screens, I'll post it here.

if u wanna open the ipod yourself just get a guitar pick and yea instructions from there i can give. but note that this voids warranty
my friend broke his (his fault) and got it repair through apples warrenty for free. but of course he was still under warrenty.
