Watching Baseball

For the baseball fans out there, what exactly is exciting about baseball? It seems to be a really slow game, and if somehow you decided to go do something else for 15 minutes, and come back ,you wouldn't have missed much...

from the friends that ive talked to, they have all said that its a thinking game... theres a lot of strategy involved... (but i don't see it?)

If someone can be so kind and explain to me everything that you observe while watching baseball... whats so exciting about it, I would be really greatful. Thank you : )

I'm not sure the facination to baseball either. Kind of boring to me too, unless you bring your own alcohol (it's too expensive at the parks).

I played baseball growing up and used to like watching the game, but I must admit it is not what it used to be. The game is not very exciting to watch anymore since players have lost respect from their fans. Personally, I have played several sports and baseball has to be one of the least physically strenuous sports. Pitching however is very tough and does takes some skill. There are several types of pitches and a pitcher must choose carefully depending on the type of batter. I know this is still probably not very exciting, but I used to pitch and know how hard it is to throw more than just a fastball.

Batting is fairly easy once you practice enough. Bottom line is that you really don't have to run very much in baseball. You just need to swing a bat and throw a ball (if that). Not as much skill as many other sports and not as fast paced. Its easy to lose interest. I must admit though that baseball is a favorite pastime in America. Going to a game is much different than watching baseball on a tv. When you go to the game you are not necessarily just watching the game the whole time. Its actually just an excuse to get together with friends on a warm day and hang out and maybe see a couple of home runs.

Yeah I guess baseball is a thinking game. Yogi Berra (ex-baseballer) once said:

Quote:
Ninety percent of this game is mental, and the other half is physical

It really does help if you know and understand the game - even better when you've got a team to support. [/quote] Cool Very Happy

I think watching baseball is a lot better when you've got good commentators who provide interesting notes and stories. Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling, who sometimes do the narrating for the Mets, are usually pretty good. Though Keith often gets in trouble for saying the wrong thing and offending someone. Which is actually pretty funny.
