S-VIDEO

What is S-Video for? Like whats its intended purpose?

Most television sets have S-Video capability. It allows you to playback footage from a camcorder (for example) on your TV. It can also allow you to show content from your computer on your TV.

It's not exactly new technology, but it should still work - you just need the right cable Wink

S video is a standard that just never really developed properly.
I think it's stupid.
It only has a video signal.
You still have to hook up other audio cables.
S video does the same thing as the yellow connector in a composite set.

About the only thing that is stupider than S video are optical connectors.
Optical connectors get dust in them and loose connectivity.

YMMV

By combining s-video with a scart-adapter it's also possible to connect your computer to any scart-capable TV-set. Thereby you can watch e.g. DVD on almost any television. So it isn't as stupid as jwellsy thinks Wink

A general video component signal (analog).
Probably, your videocard can output a video signal (e.g. DVD video or XviD/DivX video) to a TV in a proper way (with all the required computer-analog video conversion).
It's a very good feature.
