Hi I am researching to buy an Automotive GPS, This is the first time i decided to buy one for my vehicle, I am not sure which model should i opt for...Any suggestions appreciated.
Automotive GPS
I don't know about your situation, but if I were to buy one, I'd get a handheld model and a bracket to clip it onto the dashboard.
Reasons:
1: You can unclip it and use it while walking around.
2: You can easily put it in a new car if you buy a new one.
3: You can unclip it and take it with you if you're riding in a friend's car.
4: It will probably be cheaper.
Disadvatages of the handheld would be:
1: Less accurate (but still accurate enough)
2: smaller screen to look at (probably, although this is partialy negated in that you could place that screen wherever you want.)

You Can use Garmin product or use PDA as your GPS device.
I got the Mio c310x, It is great if you want something you can hack! The maps are teleatlas though and they are not so great.
The interface is absolutely great, I love the touch screen zoom/pan functionality. The best part is it cost me only $200. A garmin with the same feature will set you back atleast $700.
My advice: if you are an engineer or some one with a predisposition for hacking, get the mio otherwise stick with garmin. Don't bother with tomtom (atleast in USA)
